Parent Input Requested for Rising 9th Grade Students
With the start of the 2015-2016 school year, we would like to provide high school students with the opportunity to take classes outside of the traditional school day. To do this, we plan to pilot online and blended courses next year in addition to piloting courses during a zero and fifth block. Zero block courses will occur before the official school day begins, and fifth block courses will be offered after the official school day ends.
Several courses have been suggested as offerings for this online and zero/fifth block pilot. Before we move ahead, we would love to have your feedback on the course offerings. Please take a few minutes to provide your feedback by completing a short survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/K7QB7TY. A link to this survey can also be found on the Madison City Schools website: www.madisoncity.k12.al.us.
Thank you so much for taking the time to provide your input!
Sincerely,
Heather Donaldson
Coordinator of Secondary Instruction
Madison City Schools

DMS Scholar's Bowl Competes at the State T'ment
The Panther Scholars Bowl team of Abigail Christopher, Aditi Limaye, Arnav Mathur, Shreyas Pant, Andrew Schultz and David Teng competed in the Alabama Scholastic Competition Association state championship tournament this weekend at Hoover High School in Birmingham. The team had a good showing. We enjoyed competing against the top teams in the state.
Math Team wins 1st Place in the MATHCOUNTS Chapter T'ment
Each school is allowed to send a team of four plus six individuals. The top two teams advance to state along with the top two individuals who did not advance as part of one of the top two teams.
I am proud to announce that Discovery's team (Justin Byers, Aditi Limaye, Tony Tian, and Corey Tolbert) won first place, and the two individuals who earned the right to advance to state are also Discovery students.
David Li won 1st place individual and advances to state as an individual.
Aditi Limaye won 2nd place individual and advances to state as part of the team of four.
Tony Tian won 3rd place individual and advances to state as part of the team.
Corey Tolbert won 5th place and advances to state as part of the team.
Justin Byers won 6th place and advances to state as part of the team.
Joshua Byers won 7th place and advances to state as an individual.
All six of these students are currently 8th graders.
We had four seventh graders also participate in this tournament. They are Lynne Clark, Michael Guthrie, Victoria Lee, and David Teng. They qualified to compete at this competition by being in the top ten of our entire group of fifty math team members.
Liberty won second place, so all ten state competitors from the Huntsville chapter are Madison City students.
Math Team wins at Pizitz Tournament in Vestavia
In 7th Grade, Sherry Lee earned the 7th place trophy and Helen Wu earned 10th place. Emgra Busambwa and Erin Kueck were are 3rd and 4th highest scorers. We missed earning a team trophy by only 20 points.
Our eighth grade team won 1st place. David Li won 2nd place, Corey Tolbert won 4th place, and Joshua Byers won 9th place. Close behind, but not earning trophies, were Victoria Lee in 12th place, Justin Byers in 13th place, and Joy Duan in 14th place.
