WBMS Friday Notes
February 24, 2023
Reflections from Ms. Williams
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
How much can we pack into a short week? A LOT!
Our classrooms were popping with fun, action-packed lessons. I spent most of my time this week in 8th grade classrooms and was impressed with both our teachers and students. I was especially happy to see a high level of student agency.
Today all students attended our Black History Month Assembly. It’s the first assembly we have held since 2020, and it was spectacular! Our chorus sang; our students read poetry and a short story; our orchestra and jazz band performed music; and our students enacted famous historical figures. Additionally, we were treated to performances by the Tri-Cities High School Dance Company and chorus. It was a magnificent, student-centered celebration!
Do not miss out on two HUGE events this weekend. First, our students and staff have worked hard preparing for the musical, Moana. There are shows this evening, Saturday afternoon, and Saturday night. Our cast and crew members are giddy with excitement, and I just know it is going to be a show to remember. Buy tickets online at Moana Tickets
Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
Second, Sunday from 2 – 5 is our second annual Walk for Water. This event, sponsored by our 7th grade Character Council and supported by MANY, is a family learning experience to raise awareness about the impact of clean water scarcity and money to repair wells in Africa. There will be a 5K walk (carrying jugs of water) with learning stations along the route and a village market. Walk up registration is available and donations are appreciated WBMS Walk for Water

New Club at WBMS! Society of Stem
Society of STEM is a club run at Alpharetta High School centered on teaching middle school students STEM concepts that they will encounter in the future. High school students with experience in various fields will mentor Webb Bridge students on a variety of concepts, such as programming and engineering, so they can learn more about STEM before entering high school. Students gain exposure to these concepts and those interested in specific topics can pursue a project under the guidance of a student from AHS. The first meeting will be held on March 2nd in the Webb Bridge Media Center from 4:15-5:30 pm. We hope to see your children attend! Questions? E-mail Mrs. Wood at woodb@fultonschools.org.
6th Grade Cultural Kalediscope Field Trip Fernbank Planetarium March 8, 2023
A visit to the Fernbank Planetarium!
The planetarium is the third largest in the country and had recently been refitted with a 4K laser driven projection system. Students will also explore the exhibits, including the actual Apollo six capsule, a copy of the space suit worn by Neil Armstrong and meteorites, many of which landed in Georgia.
PLEASE NOTE – this is the Fernbank Science Center, not to be confused with Fernbank Museum of Natural History!
Impact Earth teaches about meteors, meteorites, asteroids, and comets. The film shows dramatically the effects of the Chixulub and Tungusta events, plus the Pallasite impact that resulted in the Brenham meteorite fall. Impact Earth describes ways that asteroid hunters seek new objects in the solar system and how ground penetrating radar is used to find meteorites that have survived to the Earth’s surface. Narrated by astronaut Tom Jones, the show also discusses ways that humans might try to deflect an asteroid or comet that is on a collision course with Earth.
Cost: FREE

Week of 2-20
This week the students learned about resilience. Resilience is to never give up even when things get tough. The purpose of resilience is a person becomes stronger and more assertive and copes better in stressful situations.
The students learned ways on how they can become more resilient.
- Think positively – The students wrote affirmations in January at the start of second semester. We told them to hold on to them because they can come in handy during this semester. This is a good time to refer back to them to remind our students how awesome they really are
- Self-Care – eating healthy, exercising, going to bed on time, listening to music, stress reduction techniques, mindfulness, etc
- Create SMART goals
S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Attainable
R- Realistic
T – timely
Yes, we do know students may not reach his/her goal but that’s ok, that’s how they overcome the challenges. It helps them get back up and try again.
Practice gratitude – not just saying “thank you” – it helps the students realize all the good things in their life- helps with optimism and reduces negativity

Our school was recently named a 2021-2023 National PTA School of Excellence!
To earn this designation WBMS had to demonstrate families feel welcomed and empowered to support student success, and that our PTA is a key partner for continuous school improvement. Becoming a National PTA School of Excellence began with the joint commitment of PTA and our phenomenal administrative team to work together to welcome all families, communicate effectively, support student success, speak up for every child, share power and collaborate with the community. Congratulations and a huge thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
To learn more about this accomplishment or to support our PTA during the Fall Membership Drive, visit wbmspta.org.
