Principal Message

Hello Pershing Families,

I hope this message finds your family doing well, with new memories made and time to connect with one another. As we return to school this week, students are beginning the second trimester of school, setting goals and making plans for next steps towards meeting learning targets. At home, to support your child's growth and progress, please be sure to review all information emailed and sent home by your child's teacher. If for some reason you missed Parent-Teacher Conferences that were held the week prior to Thanksgiving, please reach out by email or call the school to leave a message for the teacher so a meeting can be rescheduled by phone or Zoom. Your partnership is very important to us.

Thank you to our hard working PTO Executive Board and to our PTO members and volunteers who put together a very successful Fall Festival! It was well attended, a ton of fun, and would not have been possible if not for the dedication of our PTO leadership. Thank you to all of the families who donated items to help the event be a success. Without your support, these events could not occur! Join us on Zoom on Wednesday, December 8th, to connect with other parents, and to help plan our next event!

For families who have children in 5th and 6th grades, please be aware that Open Enrollment begins next week. Pershing is a TK through 6th grade school and our students are automatically enrolled through 6th grade unless families make a different enrollment decision, or were placed here temporarily due to an "overload" from another resident school, or were assigned our school for TK only. Please pay attention to timelines available on the San Juan Unified School District website. For new prospective families interested in Pershing for next year, we will host a visitation (outdoor only) this Thursday morning, December 2nd, at 8:45a.m., beginning in the breezeway near the office.

Lastly, please always contact us if your child will be out from school for any reason. Doing so assists us to clear absences and helps ensure your child is able to get quickly to class the day he or she returns to school. If your child needs a COVID test, free antigen rapid tests are provided at Pershing if you register at and call the office to make arrangements. Testing is typically done between 7:30a.m. - 8a.m. so that students are still able to be on time to class.

Please call our office at 916-979-8076 if you have questions. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership!

Mrs. Kendra Shelton

If you are able, please send your child to school with two clean face masks each day (one as a back-up), and write your child's name somewhere inside the mask in case he or she drops it while at recess or on the way to class. We have been going through a high number of disposable masks every day.

Also, there is a high number of jackets, coats, lunch boxes and water bottles collected on our lost and found. It will be donated before the winter break, so please come to the breezeway before or after school to see if your child left behind any items. Again, labeling your child's items with first and last name is helpful in having it returned to your child more quickly.

Thank you!
