Classroom Update

Mr. Sykes' 4th Grade

Getting Back Into the Swing of Things

Summer tends be full of fun and freedom! As you get back into your normal routines of homework, bedtimes, etc. please take a moment to remind your fourth grader of the importance of staying focused during work time and being respectful listeners while others are talking. We have been discussing responsible decision making in Health, but chattiness has been contagious throughout 4th grade this week. We appreciate your support with a little reminder at home!!

Some of this week's highlights include:

  • Learning about surface tension and density in our water unit
  • Comparing different addition methods
  • Finally being able to download apps on our iPads!
  • Our read aloud book Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing
  • Decorating our Writer's Notebooks

2400 3rd Avenue South

Minneapolis, MN

We are thrilled to be heading on our first field trip to the Children's Theatre production of Akeelah and the Bee on September 30th. Students should have brought home their permission slip this week. You can learn a bit more about the show here. Permission slips are due on Monday.

CogAT Testing

As part of the district wide identification process for Vision 21 services, Wayzata Schools will be administering the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to all 2nd and 4th graders between September 16 and October 23. Students in 3rd and 5th grade who are new to the district will also be given the CogAT during this time. Please make every effort to have your child attend school during the testing days.

Results from the CogAT tests will be used as one of the multiple information sources to identify students who will most likely benefit from the Vision 21/Gifted and Talented program. Student identification will be finalized and parents will have access to their child's results through Skyward Family Access by December 2.
