ACT Prep for Juniors (ONLY NINE JUNIORS HAVE SIGNED UP SO FAR!!)
We are going to use several ACT Prep resources this year. The first that I want you to sign up for is https://www.prepfactory.com/u/vBok0. Once you are logged in, take the pre-assessment! From that point, the program should guide you with areas that need some additional practice.
The second site is https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/test-preparation.htm. You will need to scroll down the ACT site and click on the blue box that says "Start Practicing with ACT Academy". ACT offers a question-a-day, practice tests, and other resources once you register your profile.

Drama

English
English I Honors: Students have begun their first Unit in English I: Historical Fiction, with the novel study, To Kill a Mockingbird. Students will receive their summer reading assignments back by Sunday, along with areas they can continue to grow as we move into our first writing unit next week. Students should be completing the nightly reading responses and vocabulary in their class notebooks. Students also utilized some new active reading strategies this week, for analyzing content as we read.
Next week, we will continue our novel study, along with reading some informational, non-fiction texts. We will also begin our first academic writing assignment, the Narrative Essay.
English IV: This week in English IV we began setting the foundation for the rest of the semester. Students finished and submitted their summer reading assignments. We established our standard, acceptable characteristics for formal writing, and began our study of allusions commonly used in British literature. We will quickly move into a brief review of British history as it applies to literature, and we end our foundational studies in color symbolism. Students are welcome to contact me via email (judy.yeager@onslow.k12.nc.us) or during the seminar period.
Math
Honors Math 2: Students are currently reviewing topics covered in Math 1. Students have an online assignment due Saturday night by 9pm and a graphing activity due Monday at the beginning of class. Next week students will have a group assignment on Tuesday and a quiz covering Unit 0 on Friday.
Extra videos and online resources are available for students on their Honors Math 2 Teams page and students can contact me via remind or email at any time.
Honors Math IV: Next week we will continue working on a review of Functions and Graphs. Tuesday there is a quiz covering sections 1 through 4 in Chapter One of the text. We will then finish the unit and have our first test on Friday.
Social Studies
Civics and Economics: We started this week looking at National Identity. We looked at factors that can affect a country's national identity and had some fantastic discussions about the current political culture in the United States and how it could change in the future. We ended the week looking at an overview of American Governmental structure. We will continue next week looking at the structure of the American Government and we will have our first test, either Thursday or Friday.
AP World History: This week we have had a brief introduction into Hunter/Gatherers. Next week we will continue to look at Hunter/Gatherers and the impact farming had on society. We will then move on to a brief overview of Empires, where we will be completing our first class project.
AH-1: Students have had a great week #1. They are working on our introductory unit of study: The Nation’s Beginnings. We have discussed note-taking strategies and students are using the strategy of their choice to take notes from the textbook. They have been very productive when given class time to work on their Unit 1 Study Guide materials. By Monday, students are to have a personal journal for class for our daily writing assignment.
