The Nixon News
From the Principal of Nixon Elementary School
August 3, 2021
Dear Nixon Families,
I hope you all had a safe, joyful, rejuvenating summer. I could not be more excited to welcome you back to school for the 2021-22 school year!
This pandemic has deeply impacted our community, our nation, and our world. Through it all, we have learned a great deal. I am deeply grateful to our staff and families who have supported our students and each other through these challenging times.
We are excited to welcome all of our students back in person and understand that this year will come with its own set of unique opportunities and challenges. Our staff will be taking the best of what we have learned throughout the pandemic to design programs that will support the social, emotional, and academic learning needs of each and every student.
While we are anticipating a full return to school, we continue to navigate through unprecedented times and changing county safety guidelines. Updated information about guidelines and programs will be shared regularly in the Nixon News.
The information below will help you prepare for a strong start to the school year ahead. We are excited to partner with you to ensure that each of our Dolphins thrive as we make a full return to school!
Warmly,
Amy
We Love PiE and PTA!
Nixon PiE
Donations of any amount to our education foundation, Partners in Education (PiE), are a vital way to support every student at Nixon. We simply could not continue to provide the high quality classroom, art, and music programs without the classroom aides and instructors that PiE funds! Please be on the lookout for PiE donation day events, or you can send a check to the office any day!
Find out more about Nixon PiE at: https://www.lmnixon.org/connecting/pie
Questions about PiE? Email them at nixon@papie.org.
Nixon PTA
The Nixon PTA provides funds for special non staff related school programs such as library and classroom instructional materials, technology, playground equipment, school spirit activities, student assemblies, family events, and school site facility and improvements needs. The PTA also supports all the school/home communication formats. These funds are raised throughout the year with special fundraising events.
Becoming a member of the Nixon PTA is easy! Just make a donation through Cheddar Up, or use this form to pay by check. Thank you!

Annual Data Update
Be sure to complete your Annual Data Update or ADU as soon as possible. The District sends ADU information to each family via email each year. If you did not receive this information please contact Registration Services at RegistrationServices@pausd.org or call 650-329-3707.
Part of the ADU includes a box that you can check to give permission to share your contact information with other members of the school community including PTA and room parents. This box must be checked in order for the school to share any of your contact information with any school-affiliated group including your child's classmates. Please update or enter your decision in the ADU.
Medications/Immunizations
Medical Forms:
If your child takes over-the-counter or prescription medications, they cannot be distributed or brought to school until forms signed by a parent/guardian and your child’s pediatrician are on file with the School Office. All necessary forms are accessible through: https://www.pausd.org/school-life/health-wellness/health-services
For families new to PAUSD: Please check the Health Services website for important information about immunization requirements.
Please contact LeeAnn Taylor in our office if you would like paper copies of any needed forms at ltaylor@pausd.org or by calling 650-856-1622.

Health & Safety
We are proud that we have been able to keep our community safe at school during the pandemic by following county guidance. The health and safety of our students, staff, and families remains a top priority. The Santa Clara County Health Department (SCCHD) has aligned with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidance and PAUSD will be following their requirements so that we can continue to keep our communities safe.
Please read the most recent information linked below (as of 8/03/21):
Ventilation FAQs
What has been done to ensure and improve ventilation?
PAUSD has upgraded all filters to Merv 13 and room systems were tested and adjusted to provide appropriate ventilation. All rooms are certified with an occupancy limit based on those tests.
Are reports of air quality studies available?
The district has posted previous test data on its website. Information will be updated as it becomes available at www.pausd.org/ventilation.
What are the plans to improve indoor air quality throughout the year, including if there are wildfires?
PAUSD has a protocol in place to monitor air quality and close schools if the air quality exceeds a 150 AQI reading. Part of our air quality testing measures and improvements will combat instances when the readings are elevated but do not reach 150AQI. PAUSD has contracted with a testing agency to test when we have elevated days high enough to yield results.
