Back to School Update (NEW)

OTMS Families,

With yesterday's announcement that we will be starting school in a distance learning mode, I am sure you have many new questions. Please watch for more information to follow in the upcoming week that will apply to all students (those who selected the in person or virtual option).

I will be sharing important information regarding when and how to access student schedules, pick up Chromebooks (for new students and incoming 6th graders), pick up school supplies that were ordered from EPI, and much more.

Remember that with the adoption of new gaiting criteria, families may elect to change their mode of learning (in-person or virtual) from Monday, August 24th to Wednesday, August 26th at 4 PM. This is a strict deadline so please do not miss out on this opportunity. Contact the school directly by calling 913-239-5400.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Dr. Trent Stern

6th Grade Orientation (UPDATE)

With the announcement of distance learning to begin the school year, 6th grade orientation scheduled for September 8 will likely occur in a digital format. Look for more information to be communicated prior to this date.

Please Pay Student Fees to Complete the Registration Process

Families, please remember to complete the registration process by paying student registrations fees. This is a critical step to ensure we have the appropriate staffing for both in-person and virtual education.

Completing registration now confirms that your child will attend school in September. Thank you for providing important information and parent permissions as part of the registration process. For more information about registration, visit www.bluevalleyk12.org/registration

PE Clothing Update

In order to prioritize students' health, students enrolled in PE will NOT be dressing out to start the year. However, students should wear appropriate shoes on days they have PE class.

If you have already purchased clothing, please hang on to these in the event that things change; otherwise, do not purchase PE clothes for your child. Regrettably, we are not able to offer refunds at this time.

If you have questions or concerns about this current change, please reach out directly to Dr. Stern. Thank you for your understanding and our apologies for this change.

School Supply Lists (UPDATE)

The deadline to pre-order school supply lists has passed. For those who have pre-purchased these items through EPI, next week we will send home information about how you will be able to pick up these items from the school. Thank you for your understanding.

The school supply lists are included for your convenience. If you have not yet purchased school supplies, I would encourage you to wait until after the first couple days of school to see what supplies your child will need, particularly with the news that we will start in a distance mode. I would offer the same advice for students who have selected VirtualEd.

Physicals and Athletic Participation Packet

KSHSAA and Blue Valley require a completed physical and athletic participation packet in order for students to participate in middle school athletics. The physical must be dated AFTER May 1st, 2020. Additional information can be found here.

Immunizations for Incoming 7th Grade Students

Each year the state of Kansas requires 7th grade students to have certain immunizations completed. Due to this current pandemic, we recognize your ability to schedule these has been and possibly will be affected. However, at some point these will be required for the 2020-2021 school year so we wanted you to have this information. Please see the attached pdf.

If you have questions, please contact our nurse, Brittany Petrich, at brpetrich@bluevalleyk12.org
