Week 6

CAPS Career Development III Capstone

It's time. You have practiced, reviewed, revised, and polished your ePortfolio and presentation skills throughout this class. You are ready to present your work to the world, starting with a professional review.

This week, you are combining all the feedback you received throughout this course as you prepare to share your presentation skills and ePortfolio with a professional.

Being a successful professional—presenting yourself as rational, neatly attired, polite, competent, confident, and knowledgeable—requires being able to accept and deliver feedback on a daily basis. You must not get emotional or take feedback personally. You should never deliver feedback that is based on anything other than trying to create a better product, project, workflow, and so forth. The point of feedback is improvement. After you accept feedback politely and without defensiveness, you still get to decide whether you will incorporate that feedback into your work. You have the power in this dynamic, but your aim is to make your work better by listening calmly and openly to constructive criticism. As you prepare to present for this activity, watch this video (Duke University, 2014) for tips on accepting and incorporating feedback. The presenter is focused on writing, but the tips she offers will apply to any feedback situation.
