Doing it "Wright"
Wonderful happenings at Wrights Mill Road Elementary
K.I.S.S. Month
Kids Invite Someone Special month was truly special! Over 400 parents, grandparents and other "special" people visited WMR. They came to support the "Lovely" Bookfair, eat lunch, volunteer, participate in All Pro Dads, teach us about the Articles of Association, coach us for Science Olympiad and celebrate "Read to a Kid Day."
"Lovely" Book Fair
WMR families and friends helped raise almost $2500 for the Rabren Learning Center through profits from the spring book fair. Over 40 families attended "Family Night!" The funds will be used to buy new books and sponsor guest authors.
Articles of Association
5th graders were treated to a visit from George Washington to view the Articles of Association. This priceless document was created prior to the American Revolutionary War and the Declaration of Independence. The Sons of the American Revolution in Montgomery hosted the event.
All Pro Dads
All Pro Dads continues strong at WMR. This month the dads and their children learned about encouraging each other.
KISS Lunches
During the month of February special friends were invited to lunch. Mrs. Hall, Food Service Manager, prepared a great lunch for each group. We were surprised when we had to reschedule 5th grade's lunch for a snow day!
Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad teams did an outstanding job this year. Teams placed 4th overall and they placed in the top 10 in 14 of the 21 events. We appreicated all the volunteers that helped coach our teams!
Jump Rope for Heart
WMR kids always have heart and care for others, but they were especially loving this month raising over $3000 for the American Heart Association through, "Jump Rope for Heart."
Read to a Kid . . . You'll Be So Glad!
The "Circus McGurkus" came to town.
If I Ran the Circus was the theme book for our 15th annual "Read to a Kid Day." Morris McGurk and his clowns showed up to kick off the day at a school wide assembly.
Favorite Characters
Teachers and students dressed as their favorite characters. Here, 4th grade teachers are dressed as famous literary villans.
Brotherly Love
"Anton," from Quarterback Sneak and "Where's Waldo," were two of the great characters that day.
Books and Blankets
Lunch time proved the perfect time to cuddle up with a good book! Third and fourth graders invited their parents to come eat lunch and read with them and fifth graders were paired with first graders at sister school Dean Road to read to them. They met each other at the walking track at AJHS. Over 200 parents came to read. We couldn't have asked for a prettier day!
Books and Blankets
5th graders met sister school Dean Road 1st graders to eat lunch and read books.
I Chose This For You
5th graders wrote letters to their 1st grade buddies to get to know them better and help them with choosing just the right book to read to them.
A Spoonful of Sugar
We enjoy books a lot more than medicine!
Seeing Double
5th grade Drew, got twins to read to!

Mystery Readers
Each child selected a book to hear not knowing who the reader would be. . . some of the happiest kids unknowingly chose members of the Auburn University football team including quarterback, Nick Marshall. Thanks for coming to "Read to a Kid!"
