Principal's Corner
Dear Orca Families and Students,
As always, I hope everyone had a great week and we are starting off our second quarter on the right track.
I would like to congratulate our Science Olympiad teams getting 1st, 2nd and 4th places in this year’s first invitational Science Olympiad tournament hosted at the Lynx campus last weekend! Great job Orcas! Tomorrow the teams are competing at the University of Texas, Austin Invitational. I wish each team good luck!
Orcas, our Lynx Campus PVO is organizing a Skate Night on November 22nd! Please join us with your children and families in this amazing event! Please see the details below.
We are one week away from our 3rd annual Fall Festival! I like to remind not to forget to take advantage of the online discounted fall festival wrist bands for $10 by midnight today. Sponsorships and $100 family sponsor signs are still available and purchasing by Friday will guarantee your name on signage. Adult volunteers are still needed to sign up too. All of this information and the links to the school pay can be found in the link (http://www.orlandoscience.org/fall-festival/uncategorised/fall-festival). This is school’s one of the most important fundraising boost event! Support your PVO with your family sponsor sign and signing up for a shift to volunteer.
Our high school Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society is hosting “Central Florida Math Tournament” to 4th and 5th grade students. Please welcome to share the news in your area. More information and flyer is found in this issue.
Attention Orca families, if you are receiving meals for the Free and Reduced Lunch program, you must complete an application for 2019-2020 school year. If you have not done so, your student's benefits from last year expired on September 23rd, 2019. It is important to renew your application beforehand so that there is no interruption with your student's meal services. If you have not applied to the program yet, please check the link and more information about the steps below.
Have a safe and wonderful weekend, we will see you on Monday!
Go Orcas, Strive For Excellence!

Fall Festival November 2nd
Fall Fest Sponsorship
It's not too late! Have you purchased your Fall Festival Family Sponsorship Sign for $100 yet? If just 100 families would purchase a sign, we would be $10,000 closer to meeting our goal. The net money raised is split between the elementary and middle/high PVOs and used to support various school projects, events, social activities, club supplies, teacher appreciation week, etc. that have no allocated funding. Show your support today and purchase a sponsorship online below or send a check with your information to Mrs. Foley at the high school. . Sponsorships received by 10/25 will ensure they are included in the signage order. Check here for all the sponsorship opportunities currently available.

Fall Festival Volunteer Sign Up
Adult Volunteers Needed!
- We need YOUR help! The OSS PVO is asking the OSS parents to sign up to volunteer and help at the Fall Festival on Friday, November 1st and Saturday AND/OR November 2nd. On Friday we need help during the day with receiving bake sale items at morning drop off, festival prep and starting at 6:00 pm with building one set up. On Saturday there will be donuts and coffee at 7am and you will receive a volunteer lunch voucher when you check in for your shift. Saturday has two shifts available plus early morning set up. If you are working the 2nd shift, come early to eat before your shift starts, the volunteer lunch room will close at 2:00pm. There is a ½- hour overlap to make sure that the post is not left vacant if the second shift is running late. We would appreciate any additional help for early set up at 7:00 am.
- Elementary OSS Parents, we also need coverage for the inflatables and have 4 (1.5 hour) shifts for each grade level. Please consider helping supervising one of those shifts so we can keep the inflatables open all day. These shifts have been added to the Elementary School Adult Volunteer sign up page.
- Treasure Chest donation boxes are at the front desk of your building. These are to collect unwanted giveaways and trinkets you have around the house for prizes for our free games. The children play select games for Free and collect tickets to redeem at the Treasure Chest tent. This is our budget relieving gift for the parents.
- Also please consider donating to our Bake Sale. We are accepting home baked or store bought desserts to complement our lunch menu. OCPS rules are listed on the sign up page and non perishable donations can be dropped off the Friday morning before.
All the three sign ups can be found on the same Sign Up page. Click on the tab at the top of the page that corresponds with your campus and please sign up for multiple times. The PVO appreciates your support.

30/30 DISMISSAL RULE
What is Delayed Dismissal? 30/30 Rule?
The “30/30 Rule" is a Delayed Dismissal Weather procedure that is nationally recognized. It is required that the “30/30 Rule” be enacted by the school if thunder is heard within 30 seconds of a lightning strike. Orlando Science Middle/High follows this rule.
When 30/30 Rule is implemented, students will not be dismissed until 30 minutes has passed from the last sound of thunder. However, parents/guardians who wish to pick up their child/children during delayed dismissal, will be allowed to sign out their child/children at the cafeteria or front office.
In order to pick up your student(s) from the cafeteria or front office during this procedure, parents/guardians must bring their dismissal sign to the front door of the school to sign their child/children out. If you do not have a dismissal sign, you will need to provide a picture ID and be on the school pick-up list to pick-up the child/children. Bus riders will be delivered home when conditions are all safe for dismissal.
An automated telephone and/or email message will be used to notify parents/guardians about delayed dismissals. Always be sure to update the school when your phone or email information changes. Thank you for your cooperation on our students’ safety.
