Fulton Science Academy maintains that student attendance is necessary if the student is to benefit fully from the educational experience. Attendance is taken during each class period. Missing 15 minutes or more of any class (either at beginning or end) constitutes an absence.
Students are allowed 10 absences per year for full year (1 credit) high school classes and are allowed 5 absences per semester for semester long (.5 credit) high school classes (with the exception of school sponsored field trips and academic competition). If a student has 10 unexcused absences, he/she will lose credit for that class. For students having 10 excused absences, he/she will go before the Attendance Review Committee to determine if credit is awarded or if any additional requirements must be met.

Student Spotlight; Emerging Leaders Program
Eight select FSA students were among the successful applicants which included area high schools to participate in 2019 Emerging Leaders Program(ELP) sponsored by North Fulton Chamber of Commerce. ELP offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, identify and address community issues and interact with local leaders. This is accomplished through a combination of interactive lectures, discussions, site visits, community service, and networking.
These students along with their parents, have been invited to attend the program's orientation which takes place on Wednesday at the Chamber offices.
Stay tuned for next week's newsletter to see which FSA students got to be a part of this amazing program.
Student Ambassador Kick Off!
Pictured From Left: (Tyler H., Serene H., Akshay M., Nicholas F., Spiros K., Pragya H., Aubrey L. Youmna A. Wonjoon J.)
On Thursday, September 12th, 9 high school students went to the World Congress Center in Atlanta to attend the Secretary of State Student Ambassador Kick off event. Student Ambassador groups across the state will be competing to engage their communities, promote and educate others on voting, and volunteer work. The competition involves a point system for different levels of engagement. Last year’s winners are the Student Ambassadors from Johns Creek HS. Good luck to our FSA Student Ambassador group. Stay tuned for upcoming events!
"Georgia Secretary of State's office launched the Student Ambassador Program in January 2016. The goal of the Secretary of State's Student Ambassador Program is to provide Georgia's high school students an opportunity to engage as leaders within their schools and communities. Through the program, students gain leadership experience by engaging in Georgia civics, encouraging voter registration among their peers and volunteering within their communities. The Secretary of State's office has already partnered with over 150 high schools all across Georgia since 2016." (https://sos.ga.gov/index.php/general/student_ambassador_program)
High School Student Council
High Schoolers from grades 9th through 12th got a chance to elect their grade level representatives last week. A total of 12 candidates were voted in by their peers. These winning candidates had to fill out an application, and then presented their platforms to their peers. All grades had a great showing but surprisingly 9th grade only put forward two candidates while 10th had seven vying for spots on the council. To compensate for the lack of freshmen reps, Ms. Agha opened up 10th grade representatives to holding 4 spots. The speeches delivered by candidates ranged from getting perks for students, listening to their concerns and representing them to admin. Congratulations to ALL students that ran for HS Student Council and had the courage to get on stage and address their peers- that’s no easy feat. These elected candidates will now internally elect their executive board. So stay tuned for those results.

Home Visits; A Great Activity for Your Student, No Matter Their Grade Level!
Here is some feedback from our parents:
- “Early in the school year, a group of teachers took the time to come to our home to meet us and discuss the school program with us. That event brought us back to the time in which schooling was a true partnership between parent and teacher and reaffirmed in our minds that FSA truly cares about the development of our children”
- “We even had two teachers visit us at our home. They were a pleasure to meet and we could clearly see how much they enjoy teaching students.”
- “Thank you very much for your visit and the chocolates yesterday. We enjoyed having you over very much. I also want to thank you for turning math from the most complicated and somewhat scary subject into one of our most favorites.”
- “We all enjoyed your visit last night to our home. It was such a pleasure to informally get to know both of you. My son thought it was really cool that two teachers came to his house. He talked about it the whole way to school this morning in carpool. Personally, I admire the dedication you both have for your jobs. It makes a big difference in a student’s attitude toward school. Your visit left no doubt in my mind that FSA was the right decision for my son.”
- “I just wanted to write on behalf of my husband and I and thank you for visiting our child. He loved having you both come and visit. We appreciate the level of caring and attention that you have consistently shown our family. It is rare to see such a dedication from teachers for their jobs. We can tell that you love teaching and you care for our children. Thank you for visiting our child when he was not feeling well.”
How can I schedule a home visit?
Very simple.
To schedule a middle or high school school home visit: Simply email sduman@fultonscienceacademy.org with some suggested dates/times, as well as your students' name(s) and homeroom assignments. Mr. Duman will be in touch to confirm final details.
Depending on our teacher’s availability, at least two teachers will be together to visit our students and parents at their homes. The best times to schedule a home visit are weekdays after 5:00 pm, and anytime during the weekends, except Sunday mornings. For any questions you have about this program, send an e-mail to homevisit@fultonscienceacademy.org
