On God's Team, Players Listen & Stick Together
This Sunday preschoolers are learning that "On God's Team, Players Listen" through the story of Moses & Jethro in Exodus 18, while elementary kids are learning that "On God's Team, Players Stick Together" as they study Daniel 3 and the story of Shadrach, Meshach, & Abednego
For Us
Two people are better than one. They can help each other in everything they do.
-Ecclesiastes 4:9
Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens another.
-Proverbs 27:17
Think about the teams that God has placed you on: the family of faith, NewSpring Church, your serving team, maybe a home group, your family, where you work, etc. Not a single one of these are by chance. So as we're talking about "sticking together" and Shadrach, Meshach, & Abednego, I can't help but remember how the Lord was with them, but also how they stuck by one another. Faith had united them! I believe that the Lord has placed us on these teams so that we can share our faith, not only the fact that believe in who God is, but that we get to share what He speaks to us, how we grow closer to Him, how His word is an encouragement to us. As we share what our Father is showing us, we get to trust that He wants to use that to sharpen others & to stir up faith!
For Kids & Families
- Preschoolers: Last week, we talked about how we want to set the standard for listening to what kids have to say, showing them that we value them. Sometimes the most important place we can listen is overlooked: ACTIVITY STATION TIME! Young children communicate through play, and it's an insight into their emotional world. They're formulating beliefs about the world as they pretend play scenarios. We get to listen and speak truth into these. One of the most beneficial things you can do, is pick up a toy, enter into that pretend world, and saturate it in truth too!
- Elementary Kids: At this age, kids learn by EXPERIENCE, through participating in something. So when we're teaching kids that on God's team, we stick together, we've got to model it & invite them in! They need to see that you're sticking with them beyond a Sunday, that you're asking questions about their week & their life and following up on it the following week, that we're writing postcards or going to sporting events and seeing them outside of church, that we're praying with them about fears they have or a sick family member, and that we're encouraging them to do the same for their friends in their small groups. Sticking together is what we do as a part of God's team, and we get to invite them into that!
- Families: Let's ask Holy Spirit this week how he wants us to stick with families we interact with on Sunday. He may bring a specific parent to mind or he might put you in a space for a specific conversation this week. We get to speak life over them, encourage them, ask how we can pray for them. You never know how the Lord might use your words to root truth in their hearts.
