Weekly Update December 10, 2021

GJPS has changed the following districtwide protocol for close contact notification.

• Students identified as close contacts will no longer receive personal phone calls from nursing or secretarial staff.
• Letters will continue to be sent which is in line with how several other Central Ohio school districts are operating.
• Close contact notification letters will be more personalized and will identify the specific class if the exposure occurred within a classroom setting.

CONGRATULATIONS to Mike Faist, Gahanna Lincoln High School Class of 2009! Mike plays Riff, a street gang member of the Jets and primary antagonist, in Steven Spielberg's much anticipated remake of West Side Story, arriving on the big screen this weekend.

Mike is a proud alum of the GLHS theater program and a 2021 inductee into the GLHS Alumni Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to attend the ceremony but recorded an acceptance speech from the halls of GLHS a few weeks prior.

Congratulations to Mike and all the teachers and staff who influenced him over his years at GJPS. Of course, a special shoutout to Mrs. Macioce, Mike's very PROUD theatre teacher, while he attended GLHS.

Lions Locker is an anonymous pantry, driven 100% through donations, that helps provide the students and families of Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools with school supplies, toiletries, food and other basic supplies.

In 2016, Lions Locker organized and formed a partnership with Meijer on North Hamilton Road and the Gahanna Division of Police to host Gahanna's first Shop with a Cop event. This holiday experience gives some deserving families in GJPS a little more joy to their season and a fun evening of shopping with one of our local police officers.

Every year Meijer is wonderfully generous in providing several of the gift cards used to shop for the event. The rest of the gift cards are purchased through donations from GJPS staff, Gahanna Division of Police, City of Gahanna Staff, local business and GJPS community members.
