Tiger Update: August 19th, 2022

Tiger Upadate

Hello Tigers! Welcome to the Tiger Update for the week of August 12th! I wanted to share with you just how proud I am of all our Tigers! The school year has gotten off to a wonderful start! One of our areas of focus is for starting the school year has been about respecting other classrooms, so we’ve been working on voice levels in the hallway. Ask your Tiger what they’ve learned about voice levels when they are out of the classroom.

One of the more interesting things that I have done this week is to participate in a Restorative Practices Leadership Training. For two days I was engaged in learning about how to lead our school in a restorative way. Research shows that positive relationships will help students learn, so we will be focused on proactively building as many positive relationships with other students, with teachers, and with the various adults that work around the building. The aim of restorative practices is to develop community and to manage conflict and tensions by repairing harm and restoring relationships.

In my work with teachers, I will be sharing bits of what I have learned this week so that they can implement proactive strategies in their classrooms to help build meaningful relationships.

One of my biggest takeaways were a group of 5 questions to respond to challenging behavior. They are:

· What happened?

· What were you thinking of at the time?

· What have you thought about since then?

· Who has been affected by what you have done and in what way?

· What do you think you need to do to make things right?

These are questions we’ll be using here at school to support our students, and I plan to use them at home. You might want to use them for your own conversations with your student when responding to their challenging behaviors.

As always, thank you for taking the time to join me today! Have a great weekend! Be sure to ask your Tiger about the best part of their week, and do not forget, it is a great day to be a Tiger!

Returning Phone calls from School

Parents, we know that it can be a heart-stopping moment to see that you missed a call from the school. Please know that when we call, we will always leave a message. Sometimes when you call back right away without waiting to listen to the message, you may now know who it was that called, and our secretaries might not either. And sometimes depending on the message, we might not need you to call back at all. When you wait for the message, you will know if you need to call back, who it is that you need to call back, and why.
