Newsletter for the Week of October 31st, 2022
Message rom Mrs. Chavira, Campus Principal
Rattler Community,
I hope everyone had a great weekend. Last week our students had numerous presentations and activities that revolved around Red Ribbon Week and helping our students understand the risks associated with drug use and pledging to live a healthy life. These are small steps in doing our part teach our students the dangers of drug and alcohol use and not being susceptible to peer pressure. We will wrap up our Red Ribbon Week with week with our Story Book Parade and student dress-up day. Please see the information below on details for our parade and dress-up day.
I also want to thank all of our families that have been joining us for Parent Teacher Conferences. Note that it is our goal to meet with 100% of our parents. Please make sure you are supporting this effort. As always, if you have any questions, our teachers and staff are available for support.
Please continue reading our newsletter for important updates and events happening this week. Things you will find below include

Monday Dress-up Day
- Please keep all accessories at home (wands, swords, brooms, etc.). These fun items easy become something to hit each other with.
- Please ensure costumes are not gory or too scary. We want this to be a fun day for our Rattlers and we do have young Rattlers on campus.
- Face painting is acceptable. Please make sure it is appropriate and safe since students will be perspiring throughout their day.
- Full Face Masks are not permitted as they hinder visibility when walking.
- Check students costumes and keep in mind they will be in them all day as well as walk a approximately mile in the parade. Consider the shoes (boots), weight, length and all other items that may make it uncomfortable for students.
We hope to make this a fun day for all. Thank you for your support
Storybook Parade Announcement
Monday, October 31st we will hold our Storybook Parade. Parents are encouraged to line Paseo Del Este to cheer on our students as they make their way down towards Paseo del Monte and then turn back to return to our cafeteria area. SISD police will be assisting with traffic control and closing down the street in front of the campus beginning at 8:30 am. We will stage our students near the drop off lane so please be sure to keep this area clear as we await the arrival of the Eastlake band. Parents must remain on the median or sidewalk at all times to allow classes ample space to walk the route. Students are encouraged to wear a costume in their grade level theme or of their own choice. No masks, scary make up or accessories are allowed.
As a reminder
This is a very long walk for PK students and PK does not walk the parade.
PK students will be seated in an area to watch the parade as spectators.

We will have the lights off and there will be decorations as well as Halloween themed inflatables throughout. Please make sure to sign the permission slip and send $1 if you would like your child to participate in this activity.
Halloween Tips
Rattler Community,
We know that many students will be out trick-o-treating this week. We would like to offer some safety tips to keep our Rattlers safe.
Kids under age 12 should:
- always go trick-or-treating with an adult
- know how to call 911 in case they get lost
- know or carry their home phone number
- Always wear light colored costumes, carry a flashlight or have light reflectors.
- Wait until you get home to check candy before eating it.
Older kids who go out on their own should:
- know their planned route and when they'll be coming home
- carry a cellphone
- go in a group and stay together
- only go to houses with porch lights on
- stay away from candles and other flames
- know to never go into strangers' homes or cars
For all kids:
- According to Safe Kids Worldwide, the risk of kids being hit by a car is higher on Halloween than on any other day of the year. So make sure all kids:
- walk on sidewalks on lit streets (never through alleys or across lawns)
- walk from house to house (never run) and always walk facing traffic when walking on roads
- cross the street at crosswalks and never assume that vehicles will stop
- Give kids flashlights with fresh batteries. Kids may also enjoy wearing glow sticks as bracelets or necklaces.
- Limit trick-or-treating to your neighborhood and the homes of people you know.
When kids get home:
- Help them check all treats to make sure they're sealed. Throw out candy with torn packages or holes in the packages, spoiled items, and any homemade treats that weren't made by someone you know.
Please see the news article below from KTSM with additional safety information.
Have a safe Halloween Night
We will see everyone on Tuesday, November 1st with
Free DRESS for all students with perfect attendance the week before.
Dia de los Muertos Eastlake Reading Night
Join us at Eastlake High School on Tuesday, November 1st for a fun filled night from 5-6:30 pm. There will be many activities for students of all ages. Rattlers who attend will receive a free dress pass for visiting our parent liaison Mrs. Brittany Burnette during the event. Please see flyer for more details.
Military Wall of Honor
As we prepare to celebrate Veteran’s Week during the week of November 6th, we would like to once again create a Wall of Honor bulletin board to allow our students and staff to celebrate the service of our brave service men and women. If you have a picture of a family member who served or is currently serving in any capacity with the armed forces that you would like us to include, please email a picture of them to our military liaison, Mrs. Brittany Burnette at bburne01@sisd.net so she may print them out and display them on our Wall of Honor. Due to the possibility of an original photo being damaged, we will only accept photos through email. Thank you to all of our stakeholders who are currently or have served in any capacity within the armed forces for their service and bravery.
Make it a Whataburger Night
Join us at the Eastlake Whataburger located at I-10 in the Eastlake Marketplace from 5-8 pm. 15% of sales will be donated to our campus which will be used to help fund transportation for students to attend grade level field trips during the school year. Thank you in advance for your support!

Weekly Attendance Report
Congratulations Rattler Community for Making EVERYDAY COUNT! In September our campus had the highest attendance amongst other SISD PK-5th Elementary campuses. Year to Date we continue in 3rd place. We will continue to strive and do our best to make everyday count and support our child's academic success.
Our goal as a school is to reach 97% attendance each week. We know that staying healthy is critical in order to ensure we are at school.
This week's attendance by grade level.
Did you know that when a student is absent, they not only effect their instruction but that of the whole class. A teacher must slowdown instruction to catch up any students that have been out. Help your child and their class by making every day count.
MP2 Week 3
Below you will find grade levels ranked by highest attendance.
We have seen a decline in attendance since we returned from intersession.
