Dear West TV families,
You've made it through 2 weeks of Comprehensive Distance Learning! The teachers appreciate all of your support and grace as they adjust schedules to best fit the needs of students.
Next week on Wednesday 9/30 there will be another pick up day. We've added an additional pick up time that day - so there will be 2 times: 9:00-10:00am and 2:30-4:00pm. We've purchased a mini-whiteboard and a Family Fun Run t-shirt for each student to pick up (some students also have other items to pick up from their teacher).
Starting on Thursday, October 1st is our All Star Reading Club - see below for more information.
Then on Friday, October 2nd we will have our first Spirit Day of the year - it will be "Hat Day".
The first Friday of each month will be a theme Spirit Day (for example: hat day - 'wear your favorite hat') - see below for a list of all of the Spirit Day themes for the year. The remaining Fridays each month we encourage students and staff to wear a West TV t-shirt or sweatshirt.
All students will be picking up a Family Fun Run t-shirt next week on Wednesday 9/30 (the PTC purchased one for every student) and if you'd like to purchase additional West TV shirts or sweatshirts, see below for ordering information.
Then on Saturday, October 3rd is The West TV All Star Family Fun Run (9-11am).
During Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), students will be able to check out library books from our school library. Students can pick up/drop off school library books every Monday and Thursday 2:30-3:30pm beginning next week on Monday 9/28. They can also check out books from our Library Book Bus. To request a library book and learn more about the Library Book Bus, see below.
Thank you for making West TV such a wonderful community and school. Below is a video of an Alicia Keys song as performed by One Voice - it's a touching song that reminds us all that we're doing a good job - this is a challenging time not only for our school, but for our state, our country and the world...tissue warning: you may want to have a box handy.
Library book pick up/drop off days and times

BSD Libraries will help you find the book of your dreams! eBooks are always available through Sora AND you can access public library eBooks as well. Destiny is the tool that helps you find books and request them at your school’s library. Helpful screencasts are included here. Check it out.
Library Book Bus
In addition to checking out books at the school, students can also check out books from the Library Book Bus that will drive through the West TV neighborhoods one day each week starting in mid-October. The bus will stop at several locations. More information to come.

COVID19 Metrics for Reopening Schools
COVID-19 Metrics for Reopening Schools
We continue to carefully watch the county and state COVID-19 metrics in anticipation of starting hybrid learning. Numbers are released weekly. While the Beaverton School District is located in Washington County, we are linked with Multnomah County because more than 10% of our employees live in that neighboring county.
Per the Governor's guidance from July 28, the following criteria need to be met to begin the hybrid model:
10 or fewer cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in Washington (and Multnomah) County over 7 days for 3 weeks in a row
Test positivity of 5% or less in Washington (and Multnomah) County over 7 days for 3 weeks in a row
Test positivity of 5% or less statewide over 7 days for 3 weeks in a row
The following criteria need to be met to begin the hybrid model with PreK-3 students:
30 or fewer cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in Washington (and Multnomah) County over 7 days for 3 weeks in a row
Test positivity of 5% or less in Washington (and Multnomah) County over 7 days for 3 weeks in a row
COVID-19 is not actively spreading in the school community
Student Attendance Matters
Unlike last spring, student attendance will count during Comprehensive Distance Learning. Please read the following guidance on how attendance will be tracked:
Teachers will take student attendance daily. Attendance may be counted in a variety of ways to accommodate families who may need to access instruction during different times of the day.
Attending a live teacher-led session
Watching a teacher-recorded video
Interacting with a teacher via email
Posting completed coursework online
Parent/guardian notifications will be sent out at approximately 5 p.m. each day if students haven’t engaged in their school work and have been marked as absent.
Each morning, teachers will access an attendance report and will reconcile any absences from the previous day with any new evidence of engagement during the evening.
