Eagle Crest Family Newsletter
December 9, 2021
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
I am very excited to share that we will be increasing our preschool capacity and adding another classroom with spaces for double the amount of students! We know that early childhood education is a very important support for children and families we are thrilled to be welcoming more young learners and leaders to our Eagle Crest community.
Information about our ECES Preschool registration (and the potential for a full-day Wraparound option) can be found below. Please share this information with friends and family here in Longmont. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to serve our local community and we appreciate your support.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Warmly,
Amanda

Dean of Students Message
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
As we head into Winter Break and the half way point of our school year, we want to thank everyone for helping us keep Eagle Crest a healthy and safe place for students to learn. Your support to keep students home when they are sick helps keep everyone learning and growing!
If your child has needed to miss school due to illness or vacation this year, we want to do everything we can to help them avoid missing any more school after Winter Break. Students that miss more than seventeen days in a school year are considered "chronically absent" and that impacts their ability to be ready for the next grade level. You can learn more about the significant impact school attendance has on a student’s ability to read by third grade in the images below.
If you need any support to improve your child's attendance, please reach out to us!
All the best,
Lindsey Cheney
Dean of Students

Eagle Crest Preschool Expansion
The purpose of Eagle Crest Elementary Preschool is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for children to develop and grow socially, physically and emotionally. Through the classroom experience, your child will develop independence "through intentional learning opportunities, an enriched classroom environment, and engagement with classroom teachers and peers that supports a new awareness of the world around them.” Your child will participate in many activities developed to enrich and enhance both small and large motor skills and basic readiness concepts (i.e. colors, numbers, counting, and shapes). Our curriculum is quite flexible and designed to stimulate each child to develop a positive self image through positive experiences and encouragement. With these experiences, we believe we will enable your child to become a lifelong learner and have a smooth entry to kindergarten.
New this year, we are exploring offering a Pre-K childcare “Wraparound” program for preschool students. This program would accommodate extended learning for students from 7:30am-5:30pm, so that students could have a full day experience here at Eagle Crest. This Wraparound programming is run by our partner, Community Schools, and would provide an integrated full day. Wraparound programming is a fee-based service with opportunities for financial assistance (CCAP). We are asking parents to complete the survey below and let us know your interest in the full day, Wraparound program. Based on the level of interest from our parents, we will decide if we can start a Wraparound program this fall. Please complete the survey below to let us know your interest level.I will be in communication with families later this spring about our ability to provide Wraparound programming.

Eagle Crest Annual Canned Food Drive
Eagle Crest is joining forces with many other schools in our district in a canned food drive to support Community Food Share’s efforts to eliminate hunger in Boulder and Broomfield Counties. The economic effects of the pandemic are far reaching and Community Food Share distributed an average of one million pounds per month during the first twelve months of this unprecedented event. Despite this effort, one in eight people are still facing food insecurity in our region — including over 9,000 children.
The Canned Food Drive is a great way to support our community and is also an opportunity for students to gain real world leadership experience. At Eagle Crest, our 4th grade students and teachers will organize our school canned food drive from start to finish. We will be running our annual Food Drive this year from November 29 - December 10. Please consider sending your student to school with non-perishable food items during these dates. Our school goal is to collect 3,000 cans and boxes. Together we can help build a better world!
Mwebaza Annex School - Sister School Update
We are so excited to hear from our communities in Uganda and read in the news that plans really are in place for school to start up again in January. Although we don’t know what that will look like yet, we do know how excited the teachers and students are to be together again very soon!
This week the Mwebaza Annex community was invited to attend a free 4 day computer training class. Mbogo, our computer teacher, did an awesome job teaching parents and other community members how to use the computers in the lab. Most had never used a computer before so they started with basic computer skills, like turning the computers on and off, and how to use a keyboard and a mouse. They practiced their new skills by playing simple games and getting comfortable with the computer. After that they learned about the computer icons, creating folders and transferring information from one folder to another. They also learned how to use Google documents and spreadsheets. On the last day they were able to connect to the internet and do some exploration. It was a very successful class and it’s so exciting that so many parents and other adults were interested in learning how to use the computers as an educational tool and how computers can also be used in a business setting.
Follow up lessons are planned for 2 times a month in the evenings.
