Sneak Peek of the Week!
Hello,
As we creep closer and closer to the summer, our days become very full and exciting! We appreciate your flexibility and grace as plans have had to change while the wildfire and smoke situation. We continue to pray for those affected by this crisis, and those working endlessly to stop it.
Please take a quick peek at the week to come.
Friday May 19
- PD Day. Students kick off a 4 day weekend while our staff focus on their own professional development!
Monday May 22
- Victoria Day stat. The school will be closed for the annual celebration of Queen Victoria's birthday, and the unofficial start of camping season in Canada!
Tuesday May 16
-Our Junior High Track and Field team are off to the Legion Field to compete for the day, pending air quality. Parents of participants, please watch for email correspondance through the weekend in the event of another postponement. Go Saints Go!
-Our grade 6 will once again be hosting a lunch hour canteen, with all proceeds going to their year end trip! See info below, including an easy pre-order slip for elementary students to pre-order on Tuesday morning to skip the line up!! Please note, quantities of KD and flavours of noodle cups will be limited.
-Grade 6 will be hosting a mock election "Student Vote 2023" as they examine and practice the democratic process of Canada.
Wednesday May 24
-Grade 4 will benefit from an Internet Safety presentation hosted by Foundations for Life.
-Junior High will be participating in a Blanket Exercise. This interactive exercise looks at the history of colonialism in Canada while teaching empathy and understanding.
Thursday May 25
-Grade 2 off to "Safety City" in Grande Prairie for the day!
-St. Mary's is VERY excited to welcome Indigenous Influencer and TikTok sensation James "Notorious Cree" Jones! Notorious Cree's presentation highlights Indigenous culture, traditional regalia and hoop dancing! We will be hosting students from STM and St. Marie for this high energy presentation! This presentation begins at 10:45am.
Friday May 26
-Join us for our May Virtue Award celebration at 10:45am, and consider returning for our very special Mary prayer service at 12:30pm.

First Student Bus Applications for the 2023-2024 School Year
All new and returning students requesting to ride a First Student bus this coming year must apply for a 2023-2024 bus pass by June 30th, 2023.
Did you know?
Only some students qualify for government-funded bussing. Those who do not qualify may or may not be eligible to purchase a yearly bus pass ($320.00 per student/year), and there are some situations where a bus pass is unavailable.

IMPORTANT DEADLINES & DETAILS:
- Deadline: Applying for a bus pass AFTER June 30th may cause a delay in receiving your bus pass this September.
- Grace Period: After a short grace period in September, all riders are required to have a valid bus pass when boarding the bus.
- Payment: Bus Pass payment (if applicable) is included in your fall school fee statement that is issued early in October.

School Related Fees
PreK and Kinder+ fees are due on the first of each month.
Fees related to sports and extra-curricular fees are due at the beginning of each season, before the student participates.
All fees can easily be paid online through the PowerSchool Parent Portal or in the office via debit, credit or cash. Please contact the office if you need assistance with PowerSchool Parent Portal.

Air Quality ConcernsSt. Mary's puts the health and safety of our students and staff first. As such, when the air quality reaches levels considered to be a risk to health, we will keep all activities and recesses inside. Please contact the office with specific health related concerns. | Nut Aware School At St. Mary's we have many students with many different allergies, some of which can be life threatening. As such, we ask that students do NOT bring any type of peanut or tree nut products. | Outdoor Gear Spring has sprung, and we are active and outside every day! Please ensure that students come with appropriate outdoor gear, including a light jacket or sweater, hat, sun protection, weather appropriate footwear & change of clothing, including extra socks. If you need assistance in acquiring weather appropriate gear, please contact the office. We can help! |
