A note about Internet use and safety
Parents, as we move forward with our new learning opportunities, we want to team with you in providing a safe online experience. PERSEVERANCE - PAWsitive Character Trait for April
I can keep at it, even when things are difficult. I will not give up!
With all that is going on these last few weeks and into the month of April, perseverance is the perfect character trait to work on. Being asked to stay at home, having an interruption in our daily lives and schedules, not seeing our friends, family, teachers, and students. It can take a toll on us. This month, try to remember: I CAN DO HARD THINGS! It may not be easy having things be unknown, but we can continue to do hard things and overcome! We are in this together, please reach out if you need anything from us!
While at home you can teach perseverance by:
- Encourage your kids to try a something new- shuffling cards, throwing a football, cooking a meal or a treat. If your kid balks at trying it, focus on their effort – not the final product.
-Provide different levels of perseverance. Allow some tasks with small needs for perseverance and successive levels of more perseverance. Ex.- Riding a bike for longer distances.
-Encourage while your child struggles-“You can do this! Just keep chipping away at it.” Avoid rescuing them from what they should be able to do - getting themselves up in the morning, washing their own clothes, doing push-ups every day for 3 weeks (as many as they can do), not “saving” them when they get in trouble for something.
Perseverance teaches confidence, a “can-do” mindset, and a belief that life isn’t always easy - there will be some trials in life that you will have to overcome.

Tuesday, March 31st- Hat Day (What does your hat represent to you?)

This newsletter is designed to share information (and there is a lot) but please go all the way to the bottom to see pictures of some of the great things that have happened at Mountain View over the past month.
To see updates from the Boise School District click here. Below is a portion of the update from yesterday, March 26th.
First Phase of Online Learning and Support for Essential Services Begins Monday
Our teachers and staff have created learning resources to ensure at-home learning continues during our school closure. Beginning on Monday, March 30, 2020, after schools have had a chance to meet virtually with staff, the Boise School District will launch phase one of our Learning & Essential Services website. Information will also be available for families on how to pick up resources if they do not have internet access.
The website will include grade-level materials designed to help students maintain and develop their skills in core subjects. In mid-April, we will provide additional, more content-specific learning services for students online by offering specific content-based and grade level online curriculum for each student, with alternative paper materials for students who do not have online access.
Parents will receive information on how to access the new website around noon on Monday, March 30, 2020.
To ensure every student’s learning needs are addressed, the District will also provide paper materials at our Grab-and-Go Meal sites and bus route deliveries.
Coronavirus Resources
We know you are being inundated with news of the novel coronavirus. Fear, uncertainty, and anxiety are bound to be heightened during this time and we want to offer a few tips as we weather this situation as a community, followed by a list of links to resources if you want more information on how to talk to your kids and ways to engage them. See the tips and resources here.

If you know your student(s) will NOT be attending Mountain View next year please let Tina know by emailing her at tina.gould@boiseschools.org. This helps us in planning for next year.
If your phone number or email has changed please go into Infinite Campus and change it OR email Tina and she can change it for you.
If your child is already attending Mountain View you do not need to enroll them again they are already set up for 2020-2021 school year.
Parents of current 5th grade students:
If you are open enrolling your student to another junior high school other than the boundary junior high school where you live, you will need to complete an open enrollment application and submit it before May 15th. Applications are available here.
Last Call to complete Parent Survey
We have sent out the link for this survey through email a couple of times. If you have not yet had the opportunity to participate please do so by Tuesday, March 31st.
One of the pieces of Idaho’s new school accountability system is a parent survey. This survey asks for your input on several topics to help measure how our school is doing in meeting your needs.
To access the survey, visit this link. Then pick Mountain View from the drop-down menu. If you have a child at more than one school, you can complete as many surveys as pertain to each school.
The survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete and your responses are anonymous. You can submit your survey until March 31, 2020.
We will use these survey responses to identify opportunities to maximize satisfaction, engagement, and communication. Additionally, the state will report the results and the number of responses on Idaho’s new school report card (https://idahoschools.org/).
If you want to see a copy of the survey questions, visit here. Remember though, you have to use the custom website above to complete and submit the actual survey.
Library news!
Thank you to parents and students for supporting the Mountain View Library by visiting the Scholastic Book Fair. It was a huge success. Thank you to our amazing parent volunteers for helping during our busiest of times. Mrs. Bostrom can’t wait to fill the new library space with new books.
