CARLSON COURIER
Home of the Champions
Welcome Back Champions,
Wow, I think I blinked and now we're starting all over again. I hope you all had a wonderful summer and were able to regain some sense of normalcy that has been missing for quite some time. I must admit there has been a renewed sense of optimism in the air as teachers returned to campus this past week. We are excited to welcome everyone, especially our newest Champions to Carlson on Monday for Meet the Teacher. I hope you find all the information you need to get started here in this newsletter. The big differences from last year to this year are of course masks being optional and social distancing of 3 feet instead of 6. We will still continue to sanitize high touch points multiple times a day and enforce sound hygiene practices. The key to our success while not wearing masks will be to continue to stay home if you are sick or not feeling well. We are still bound by the same COVID symptoms and practices that result in students staying home. Although, I am hopeful that this will just be a small part of our daily routine until we know for sure you can trust we will have student safety at the top of our priority list. If things remain relatively safe we will begin reinstating many of the clubs, sports, and activities that students previously participated in. We will have more information in the coming weeks as we get settled back into routine and see how this goes. Just want to thank you again for all your patience, support and help last year as it was quite a challenge for us. We learned that we need each other and together we are in fact stronger, so this year our theme is simple, TEAM CARLSON! So, 2021-22 look out cause here WE come! Have a wonderful weekend and see you soon.
Gratefully,
Mr. Morgan

For parents of 4th - 6th grade students please use the North side parking lot off Desert Jewell and enter through the nearest open gate. There will be signs out there indicating entrance locations.
Transportation
If your student(s) will be riding the bus and you need help with finding their stop and route times, please stop in the library and you will be able to speak with someone that can help you find that information. It is accessible in your Infinite Campus Parent portal so be sure to check their first.

Student Handbook
Parents be sure to review the handbook with your students in the coming days/week. We will be highlighting some of the key components here at school as well to ensure a success year. There is a page that needs to be signed and returned to your homeroom teacher indicating you have read it. I have attached both a pdf of the handbook and the signature page here for your convenience.

If your child requires daily or as needed medication to be administered by our health assistant, Ms. Franco, be sure to get the proper paperwork filled out and on file here in the health office. They are attached as well here for you to complete. You can email them to franco.nohemi@cusd80.com or drop them off in the health office.

The portal is where you can check your students grades, see messages from both the school and district and pay any fees that may arise throughout the year.

Click on the following link Student Access to log in as a CUSD student. For upper grade students its highly beneficial to make checking their grades a weekly habit to be sure they are staying on top of their assignments and managing any missing grades in a timely manner.

Morning Recess
Now that students will be reporting to the playground upon arrival, we will be dividing the field into two halves to utilize our space the best we can and clustering age appropriate students together. The goal is to prevent older students playing games near younger ones and any accidents as a result of the large amount of students that will be out there. See the map below and let your student(s) know that the West half is for 4th - 6th while the East half is for 1st - 3rd grades. The basketball courts and playmaker are open to all 1st - 6th graders and are not part of the zone division. And of course the Kindergarten playground and small grass area is reserved for only Kindergarten students to play.
