Mrs. Walters' News
Once again, thank you for attending our fall conferences! And thank you to all the families who helped provide us with pre-conference meals to sustain us for the evening- delicious! If you haven't already, please take this survey to share your thoughts about your conference experience.
Today we had our October celebration- Read to a Stuffy Day! Classes who earned the celebration had students bring a special stuffed animal to school and found special time within the classroom to snuggle up and read! The way these monthly celebrations work encompass each classroom defining behaviors to work on as a group and earn together. If the class does not achieve the reward, as a class, they don't participate and try again next month!
The classrooms are fully invested in our new reading workshop model. You would be surprised to see the stamina already developed in our students. The continued encouragement to keep reading, stacking of lots of interesting books, timers and tracking helps students to 'see' their efforts paying off. Each day, students learn specific strategies for them to try when they are doing their independent or partner reading. Teachers check in during this time, notice them practicing the strategy, and continuously monitor their reading levels and progression.
Be sure to check out the calendar of events below for important upcoming dates!
