GEAR UP Wilkes Community College

Wilkes Community College GEAR UP Program will be hosting an out of school day program on March 15.

Do you enjoy using power tools? Would you like to participate in a make and take woodworking project?

Join the experts of WCC's building construction program on March 15 from 8:00am-1:00pm and again that same day from 12:00pm-5:00pm for a FREE construction camp. Lunch will be provided. There is limited space available for 6th-8th grade students. See Mrs. Stinson, School Counselor for more information.

WECHS Interviews

The interviews will take place for West Middle on Wed, March 2 beginning in the conference room at 8:00. The schedule will be every 15 minutes. Principals will receive letters of acceptance/denial on Monday at their principals meeting. Mrs. Stinson will call students up and give them their letter. We had 29 students apply and not all will get an interview. According the the early college this is the best applicant pool they have ever had.

Career Interest Project

Over the course of the next few weeks, students will be working on a Career Interest Project. This project will include, students participating in a battery of interest inventories and career inventories that will lead to the completion of a career project product.

This project will encourage students to explore various careers of interest. Students will then narrow their focus to one career of interest. The final work product will focus on that single career. (Collect all student work until the end of the project)

Career Interest Project Portfolio-Jungian Type Scale 1.2

Students will identify characteristics of the 16 basic personality types and be able to explain why productive groups consists of a combination of those types. They will also be able to identify careers based on their individual type.https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B0YlJK3SNVnJWUFacktHcTFES3c

Tutor.com Class Access Form

It's a new semester and a great time to remind students of this great resource they have available to them to get homework help. As a reminder, teachers who want to introduce this to their entire class and have the class log on all at the same time, we now have that option. Just make sure you fill out the request form PRIOR to having a class log on.

Upcoming GU 101 lessons will require students be able to use their individual CFNC accounts. If you have students who have not created an account, or are unable to get into their created CFNC account, please list them on the google form.

Mrs. Stinson and I are working to be sure all students have access to their accounts before the GU lessons begin.

6th-8th grade students county-wide created CFNC accounts and began exploring what careers they are interested in, as well as how to plan, apply and pay for college.
