Columbus Catholic News
iPad Insurance
Students were supposed to start out with new devices this year but with unexpected delays they have not arrived. We will not be offering insurance until we get the new devices. In the meantime we know our students will treat the iPads with care and respect as these devices will not be sent for repair. In an emergency situation a device will still be available for student use until we get the new ones. As soon as we get the new devices information will go out about purchasing insurance. Contact Mrs. Schmitz with questions.
Office Updates
Throughout the course of the year we know that some families have address changes and phone number / emergency contact changes. If, at any point during the year, your family goes through an address change or a phone change please be sure to notify our office so we can update our records. This is helpful in all of our communication processes. We appreciate your support in this venture.
College and Career
UNI College Fair
Students who are interested in attending the UNI College Fair on September 13th please fill out this form. Permissions slips need to be returned by September 6th.
A college fair is a gathering of college representatives who are looking for the right students for their institutions. This is for students interested in any post secondary options, not just students who want to attend UNI. There will be over 70 institutions in attendance. It's a great opportunity to learn about lots of colleges in one location.
Job Shadowing
During common time on September 14th, Cedar Valley Career Connections will be here to help any student interested sign up for a job shadow. Fill out this FORM to be requested from common time.
JUNIORS - Preliminary SAT (PSAT) and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT)
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a great primer for the SAT, and even the ACT, but it's more than just a trial run. PSAT scores are used to identify National Merit Scholars and award merit scholarships. The cost of the test is $18 any unused test is $4.
The PSAT/NMSQT takes 2 hours and 45 minutes and consists of 3 tests: Reading, Writing & Language, and Math. Most of the questions are multiple choice, though some math questions ask you to write in the answer rather than select it.
Test Date October 12:
If you would like your student to take the PSAT you can sign them up HERE. I strongly encourage all juniors to take the PSAT-- the more experience you have with these examinations, the better. If you have any questions please twolfensperger@cvcatholic.org. Registration deadline is Sept 13th.
College Visits
Visits will be held in the College and Career room during common time:
Thursday, September15th - Hawkeye Community College
Friday, September 16th - Coe College
From the Classroom
Mr. Hoefer's Peace class was discussing ideas on how to change the world: In small groups, we had dug into ways we hear & see others suggest how to change the world. After groups had eliminated complaining, ignoring the problem, and other negative ideas we came together to create an answer to the writing prompt "We will change by ..."
Students will continue exploring their role in this world-- specifically the importance of our faith as we consider how to make a positive influence on the world.
