Dear El Carmelo Families.
Monday will begin the final three weeks of school. Teachers are preparing lessons, assigning work, and teaching via Zoom. With remote learning, our children are experiencing an increased amount of screen time. We know the time spent on screens can have an adverse impact on sleep. As a result, removing children from computers, tablets and phones a few hours before bedtime is more important than ever. Did you know that it is recommended that children ages 6-13 get 9 to 11 hours of sleep each night? Please make sure your child is getting enough sleep and waking up independently. If you have to wake your child up each morning, your child needs more sleep, and should to go to bed earlier. To address this, El Carmelo School Psychologist, Marci Hakeman, encourages parents to start by having your child go to bed 15 minutes earlier each night, until your child wakes up on his or her own. That’s when you know your child has the right amount of sleep. Summer will be here June 5th. Until then, school is in session and El Carmelo students need to be well-rested, ready to learn.
