The SoRoCo Weekly Newsletter
December 4, 2016
Dear Team,
The first semester has flown by. I can’t believe it was four months ago we were doing ice breakers, putting school policies in place, shuffling student desks around, and gearing up for an exciting school year. It feels like yesterday when we were registering high school students for their classes, but their classes are about to come to a close, and we need to schedule them for new second semester courses.
Friday night lights have been replaced with open gym nights, while fall athletes have hung up their cleats so they can lace up their basketball and wrestling shoes. Since our return from Thanksgiving, our middle school and high school musicians have been rehearsing Christmas music in preparation of the Winter Holiday Concert. And the snow, which has turned our valley white, will not be going anywhere for a while.
In many ways, a new season brings with it new routines, such as installing snow tires, waking up early to shovel the driveway before work, sharpening and waxing your skis, feeding animals who are no longer able to graze, and bringing out your winter wardrobe from storage. However, when it comes to education, our consistency cannot falter at the prospect of a new season. All those classroom rules, policies and routines you created in August… stick with them! Students might behave differently around the Holiday season, but that doesn’t mean we change our game plan. We only have two more weeks, and as my father always encouragingly told me, “Good runners always sprint to the finish!”

I always see Isabel smiling in the hallway as she interacts with her friends. This is her first semester as a middle school student, and she has been succeeding in the classroom. She is also planning on being a three-sport athlete: volleyball, basketball, and track. Isabel's music teacher claims that Isabel is a wonderful student to have in her 6th grade band, constantly working hard to fine tune her music skills.
