VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL GOAL: Kindness (Manaakitanga)
Kindness or Manaakitanga, is showing care and concern for other people, animals and the environment – ‘caring for the people’. It is part of our school vision and one of our school values.
We need kindness for people to ‘get on’ and relate to each other, animals and the environment. “Manāki Tanagata, Manāki whenua - To care for the people and to care for the land” this is a big part of our school vision.
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You practise environmentally friendly habits such as recycling
You take excellent care of your friends, new people
You accept that people are different
You have respect for the feelings and well being of others
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
It certainly feels like a long time ago since we came back to school in Level 3 and our 'bubbles'. We will certainly look back on the beginning of 2020 with absolute disbelief! It is hard to believe that 8 weeks into Term 1 we were planning and trying to find the best ways to teach 'remotely'! A massive thanks to the Vogeltown teaching team for the commitment and support of each other during this very 'different' time. Well done to our Vogeltown community as well. You guys have helped keep this virus away and had to become teachers, mentors, social coaches and counsellors - well done whanau, we appreciate your support!
We are now preparing for Term 3. We have two terms left in the year (20 school weeks) to accelerate and build on the progress we have already made in our learning so far. We have some exciting topics planned for Term 3 as well as some great Vogeltown traditions and community involvement:
Some things to look forward to:
- Mid Winter Swim
- Talent Quest
- Interschool sports (Yr 5/6)
- Whanau Fun run
- Vogeltown Cross Country
- Arbor Day
- Wig Wednesday
- Book Fair
These next two weeks of holidays will certainly be a time for our teaching team to relax and recharge the batteries having done a wonderful job! I want our Vogeltown community to do the same. Bring out the board games again, turn off the wifi and enjoy the holidays with the freedom that we have earned as a country.
Our Te Reo focus for this week has been:
He aha te tae? What is the colour?
He_______________ te tae
Ma - white, whero - red, kakriki - green, Maota - dark green, Karera - light green, Pango - black, kowhai - yellow, kahurangi - blue, kikorangi - blue, karaka - orange, mawhero - pink, kiwikiw - grey, paraone - brown, tawa - purple.
Thanks whanau,
Stay safe and spend heaps of time with the family!

VOGELTOWN BIRTHDAY - 105 YEARS OLD
TEACHER ONLY DAY FRIDAY 31st JULY
We will be using this day in two ways:
* The first is for learning conferences for our Taranaki (Junior) syndicate. We will have the Thursday night and all of Friday for our parents/caregivers to book in and talk to your child's teacher. See the link below to book in a time for these learning conferences.
* For our Huatoki (Middle) and Paetoki (Senior) syndicates, this day will be for Professional Development around writing.
Our learning conferences for the Huatoki (Middle) and Paetoki (Senior) syndicates will be in Week 9 of Term 3.
LEARNING CONFERENCES - TARANAKI SYNDICATE
We always aim to get 100% attendance to these conferences as they are a very important time to meet with your child's teacher and discuss the progress made so far over the year. You will also receive your child's progress report at this meeting - this will be the same report as you received in Term 1.
To book in for a learning conference, please use this website and these codes for the different days:
- Go to parentinterviews.co.nz, enter the event code and click Go.
- Enter your name, email address and the names of the students you wish to make bookings for.
- Select the teachers you'd like to book by ticking the checkbox beside their name, and then click the Book Interviews button at the bottom of the page.
- Using the timetable, click the Book button beside the time slot you'd like to book for the teacher. You'll be asked to confirm your booking.
- Continue until you've booked all teachers.
PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS ONLY FOR TARANAKI (JUNIOR) SYNDICATE AT THIS TIME.
The codes for each day are:
* Thursday 30th July (3:30pm - 7:30pm) - 97TUDZ5G

VOGELTOWN HOME AND SCHOOL
Who are the Vogeltown Home & School?
We are a small group of parents and staff that fundraises for the ongoing educational needs of Vogeltown School students. We help with all the 'little extras' that sometimes school funding does not cover. We are often found handing out ice blocks at school cross country, organise the school lunches and other small fundraisers throughout the year. Each year we commit to supporting the school through providing sports uniforms, classroom equipment, transport subsidies and there are other projects that come up every now and then because of a need or want for them. After the school holidays, the Home and School will discuss future fundraising events for the school and we would love to have fresh ideas from our school community.
When do we meet?
We usually meet once or twice a term, however on Wednesday 29th July, we invite you to an informal hui in the Senior School Staffroom at 7pm. There will be some light finger food available as we will also hold our AGM (don't be put off - this will only take 15 minutes where we will appoint new office holders - formal stuff sometimes has to be carried out!).
We encourage our new Vogeltown families to come along and see what we are all about, fundraising can be fun and very rewarding!
