SLE Weekly Update February 25, 2022
Good afternoon East families,
We hope you had a restful break and enjoyed time with family and friends this week! As a reminder, when we return to the building on Monday, masks are now optional. Mr. Archibald shared in his last newsletter that the Oakland County Health Division will lift its requirement to wear masks in schools beginning Feb. 28th when it rescinds emergency order 2021-1, which obligated educational institutions to require students, teachers, and staff to wear a face-covering in order to slow the transmission of COVID-19. Please note that federal regulations still require masks to be worn on buses. Masks will still be available on buses and in the building for those that need one. For additional guidance in response to the change, please click on the following link: February 2022 SLCS Student COVID Guidelines
Spring is approaching and there are many events and activities for which to plan. Just prior to break, we sent a letter with information regarding upcoming testing dates for the month of April. We shared this with you so that you can reinforce the importance of attendance for these tests with your student(s). As a reminder, the MME suite of assessments is a requirement for graduation and all 11th-grade students must complete all three tests. Students in grades 9 and 10 will be taking the PSAT which provides information regarding college readiness and helps students identify areas of growth to focus on prior to taking the tests in 11th grade. For more information about the SAT and/or the PSAT please visit click on this link: College Board
The letter for spring testing can be reviewed below.
Have a fantastic weekend!

Oakland Schools Technical Campuses have partnered with Oakland Community College to bring Early College opportunities to our campuses. In 11th and 12th grades, students take college courses along with their home high school and OSTC coursework. Students attend Oakland Community College full time during an added 13th year completing final high school requirements and potentially earning a full associate degree.
THERE IS A SEPARATE APPLICATION PROCESS TO ENROLL IN THIS PROGRAM.
Oakland Technical Early College is a rigorous three-year program offering high school students an early start in post-secondary training to better prepare them for high-skill, high-demand and high-wage careers.
During the 11th and 12th grades, students take high school requirements, an OSTC program and college courses that align with a technical degree.
The cost for college tuition and books are covered for participants in this program. Students and their families are responsible for transportation to Oakland Community College.
