Vista Oaks’ WASC Accreditation Visit – Coming Soon!
What is WASC Accreditation?
· Accreditation is a voluntary dual-purpose process that schools (1) must be worthy of the trust placed in them to provide high-quality learning and (2) clearly demonstrate continual self-improvement.
· An accredited school is focused on a mission and goals for students; it is student-oriented and examines its students’ performance continuously; it accepts objective evaluation from a team of outside peer professionals trained by ACS WASC; it maintains a qualified faculty within an effectively organized school; it collaboratively assesses the quality of its educational programs on a regular basis; and it plans for the future.
· Accreditation is required for schools wanting to maintain high school course approval from the University of California Office of the President.
· In short, accreditation gives credibility to Vista Oaks and the educational program we offer to our students. Also, the highly-involved accreditation process supports Vista Oaks commitment to continually improving our focus on learning.
When is the WASC Visiting Committee coming to Vista Oaks?
· The WASC Visiting Committee will be visiting from March 12 – March 14. They will spend one day observing and visiting the Byron Learning Center, one day visiting the Lodi Learning Center and one day meeting with school leadership. The Committee will also work on drafting their report.
· The WASC Visiting Committee will spend most of the day on Tuesday, March 13 at the Byron Learning Center. They will spend their time observing classes, special education and tutoring services and parent/advisor meetings. They will also have lunch with a group of our students to get their insights and thoughts about Vista Oaks.
What will the WASC Visiting Committee be doing?
· The Visiting Committee will have a busy few days! The Visiting Committee will spend their time interviewing staff, talking with students and parents, looking through student work samples, observing classes and meetings, and drafting a final report detailing what they found.
· The Visiting Committee will make a recommendation to the WASC Board of Directors regarding Vista Oaks future status as a WASC member.
Can I meet the WASC Visiting Committee?
· Yes! We will be hosting a Coffee Reception for the WASC Visiting Committee on Tuesday, March 13 from 9:15 to 9:45 in the Oak Room of the Byron Learning Center.
· There will be coffee, tea and a few delicious treats.
· We would love for you to meet the WASC Visiting Committee in this informal, personal setting!
