Mohegan Weekly Update 5/8/2023

May 8 Update

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

I want to start this newsletter by recognizing the wonderful staff we have at Mohegan Elementary School. Everything we do is for the kids. Teachers go above and beyond to ensure that each child is receiving what they need. Teaching is more than a job…. it is a calling, a vocation. I want to let them know how grateful I am for their professionalism and dedication to the students of Mohegan Elementary School.

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Just a reminder that we are still registering students for Kindergarten for the 2023-2024 school year. If your child is turning 5 by Dec. 31, 2023, they are eligible to attend Kindergarten. Please call the office for more information.

END OF YEAR TESTING

Students in grades 3 and 4 will take the Smarter Balanced Assessment starting on May 9th. They will take the SBA reading assessment on May 9th and 10th. They will take the Math assessments on May 16th, 17th, and 18th. These tests are untimed, so we encouraged students to take their time and try their best.

All students in grades K-4 will also take NWEA tests starting May 19th. The NWEA assessment is given 3 times per year to all students and shows a student’s growth over time. It is very important that students attend school on these test dates. Our teachers have worked very hard to prepare the students for the end of year assessments. Encourage your child to get plenty of sleep and do their best on every assessment. I know they will do great.

MULTICULTURAL MUSIC CELEBRATION

On May 23 at 6:30, Mohegan School will be hosting a multicultural music celebration. Anyone who would like to perform multicultural songs or dances can contact Maria Zampano at mzampano@sheltonpublicschools.org.

Here is the link to sign up for the event. Space is limited so please sign up soon!
