Message from the desk of Scott Feldkamp
Dear VCMS Families,
Here we are at the end of September and almost at the end of the 1st quarter of the 2021-2022 school year. While we have accomplished so much in a short period of time, there is still much to do! I encourage you to continue to keep up with your child(ren)’s classes and grades. If you have not used Parent Portal or itslearning, these are the two systems that we use as our primary means to keep you abreast of what is happening with your child(ren). Parent Portal is the system that houses information such as Attendance, Grades, Contact Information, Assessments, and other student specific data. Itslearning is our learning management system that is tied directly to your child(ren)’s teachers and classes. This is where lessons, activities, and resources for specific classes can be found. Using both of these systems in conjunction with one another, allows you as the parent, to stay informed about your child(ren)’s progress. There is also no substitute for communicating directly with your child(ren)’s teachers. Please be sure to contact them with any questions you may have. In addition, October is the month where we will offer parent conferences to families should there be concerns about student achievement and progress. Just so you know, academic courses in middle school have continuous grades throughout each semester. This means that if a student is not doing well during the first quarter, they still have time to make improvements before the end of the 2nd quarter (or the end of the 1st semester in December). This also means that if students are doing well at the end of the 1st quarter, we (you and the school) will want them to continue to do well throughout the 2nd quarter (or the end of the 1st semester in December). It takes all of us working together to help support your children/our students.
Speaking of supporting one another, the PTO is still shy of their membership goal. I can tell you that the partnership between the school and the PTO is strong! We cannot do our jobs at school and home without each of us supporting one another. I highly encourage you to become a member in the VCMS PTO. In addition, the PTO will be kicking off a fundraiser event this October. More information will be shared with you and your children very soon.
I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, beginning in the month of September I will be more than happy to attend Homeowner Association meetings for subdivisions who reside in the Vickery Creek Middle School district. During these visits, I will share information about Vickery Creek Middle School and provide insight to middle school life. If you are an HOA board member (or know one) and would like to have me attend one of your monthly, semi-annual, or annual HOA meetings, please click on the link below.

As I wrap up my segment of the Viper Voice, I always like to end with this message. As the principal of VCMS it is my honor and privilege to serve our community. We have the best students here at VCMS! I look forward to talking with them and getting to know them better throughout this year. If there is ever a question, concern, or compliment you would like to ask or share, please feel free to contact me anytime at sfeldkamp@forsyth.k12.ga.us, or at (770) 667-2580 ext. 230113. I look forward to a wonderful year and all the exciting times ahead!

A hilarious YA rom-com, this book was full of heart, laughter, and some major suspense! Perfect for any teen obsessed with social media feuds (particularly Twitter), this book shows that sometimes we have to learn to stand up for ourselves--and sometimes, someone else can show us how to do it. Bonus if you're a foodie--the dishes and desserts described in this book are seriously mouthwatering!

I just finished this book and it was amazing. A lot of people know about the atrocities in Germany during World War, but I had no idea about all that happened in Italy. This story is based off the life of a teenager in Milan, Italy during the end of WWII and how he helped Jews escape over the border to Switzerland and became the driver for Hitler's general in Italy. I couldn't believe that this one person went through so many remarkable things in his lifetime.

Nic remarks this book is a combination of her love of softball and the film The Sandlot! A quick read, this novel is a realistic story with a mystery intertwined. Shenice "Lightening" loves softball, her team, her best friend Scoob, and her family. Nervous about her all Black U12 softball team making it to the finals her Dad reveals a secret about her Great-Grandfather that will change how she views herself and the sport she loves!
