CELEBRATE STUDENT LED CONFERENCES
Student Led Conferences (SLCs) are fast approaching! That's right, it's time to get specific about what and how sharing will look during this special time with our students and families.
Consider some of the reasons we value SLCs:
- Students have an opportunity to share about their learning with their family.
- Students take ownership of their learning.
- It's an opportunity to engage with our families.
Consider what still might need to get done to make SLCs happen:
- What kinds of modeling will students benefit from this week?
- What kinds of supports (prompts, ideas for visual presentation, sentence starters, checklist) need to be in place for students to prepare for SLCs?
- How will you provide feedback to specific students during student SLC practice time on Friday?
Check out the video below for some review and preview highlights of a SLC. Consider some of the following while you watch:
- What are some of the processes or content students seemed confidence with during the video? How can a teacher support a student getting to that place of confidence?
- Have you been facilitating SLC's for awhile? Do you want a new idea to add to SLC's? We all know Hattie's list of factors related to student achievement. Self-reported grades is the 2nd most impactful factor at 1.33 effect size. Consider adding a reflective component where students can share about an expectation for learning, where they thought they might have performed and how they got to a point of out performing it. Boom! Success story!
