Getting Ready to Soar

We are pumped to begin another outstanding school year at Edgemere Elementary School. Last year our students absolutely rocked, even as we worked through how to help students transition from virtual learning back to face-to-face learning, and we wrestled with the ongoing effects of COVID. Ugh!

Despite those challenges, our Blue Jays achieved our highest overall scores EVER in our Spring MAP tests, especially in math. And we had some fun along the way with activities like our Talent Show, Sports Day, Scooter Handball competition, Themed Fun Days, The Trashy Fashion Show, and the return of our Volunteer Tea. We also were recertified as a Maryland Green School!!

Last year was great, and we are getting ready to make 22-23 even better!

Theme - Soar Above

Our school wide theme this year will be "Soar Above". There are so many ways we can become entangled up with things that drag us down, but at Edgemere we will work to soar above those distractions and keep our eyes on success by Working Hard, Having Fun, and Being Kind.

Each month we will focus on a different virtue:

Important Dates

Friday, August 26th – Sneak a Peek

Sneak a Peek is a chance for students to meet their teacher and see their classroom prior to the first day of school. This visit can help them to feel better prepared. We will offer Sneak a Peek on Friday, August 26th from 2:00-3:30. Please feel free to bring school supplies to leave in the classroom.

Monday, August 29th - First Day of School

Rise and Shine! It’s the first day of school! (After a long summer, we know exactly how you feel on the first day of school.) It is a full day for 1st through 5th grade students. School doors open at 8:50am and students must be in homeroom by 9:05am in order to avoid being marked late. Students who arrive to their classroom after 9:05am must be signed in by a parent/guardian in the office. Students will be dismissed at 3:50pm.

Monday, September 5 - School is Closed for Labor Day Weekend.

Tuesday, September 13th – Back to School Night

Edgemere families will have a chance to get some of the details about their child’s instructional program on Back to School Night. At that meeting, teachers will share information to help parents understand the curriculum, communication resources, and classroom management plan. Back to School Night will begin at 6:00pm and sessions will be offered twice for those with more than one child. We hope you can make it.

We are going to have a wonderful year! We look forward to working with you and your child. Please feel free to contact the school with any questions you may have.
