Big picture

Traits and Challenges of Twice Exceptional Learners - January 12, 5:30 pm

The educational experiences of gifted individuals with additional learning differences are poorly studied and understood. These twice-exceptional, or 2e, learners frequently have negative school experiences, and often get neither the opportunity to excel in their areas of strength nor the support they need for their areas of challenge.

Join Learning Profile and 2e Specialist Jeff Morton for an informative and engaging exploration of the characteristics of 2e learners and the common barriers to learning they face. Participants will gain insight into the experiences of 2e learners and be presented strategies and resources to better help these students meet their potential.

This free workshop is open to the public and is being presented via Zoom. See link below to join next Thursday, January 12 at 5:30 pm.

Chartwell Board of Trustees Observing Classes This Month

In an effort to further engage our board of trustees in the work we do, trustees will be observing classrooms in small groups (no more than three) throughout the month. They are encouraged to introduce themselves to students so you may hear about the conversations they have at home!

HIGH SCHOOL NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Project Period Field Experience: Monday, January 9

On Monday, January 9, the high school will go off campus for the full day. Please ensure students are on time as we are departing shortly after drop-off.

As part of our “Corporations” project period, students will engage in an off-campus field experience to visit various corporations in Silicon Valley. We will be traveling by bus. Due to our size, we are splitting the students into two groups. Half of the students will visit Apple and the other half will tour the Silicon Valley Innovation Center. We are aiming to be back on campus between 3:15-4:00 pm (traffic is unpredictable).

Lunch is included for all students. Students should wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a rain coat and a water bottle. Students can bring snacks for the bus rides if they choose. Students who take medications during the school day will be responsible for bringing and managing their own medications. For the few students who typically get their midday medication from Roz at the front desk, we will bring and administer those medications.

If you know your student cannot attend this event, please email nbuice@chartwell.org as soon as possible.
