We have done lots of role play and writing about Traditional Tales like Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have also learned lots about money, surveys, fractions and multiplication in our maths work.
Middle School Options
Construction skills, football and music/Drama provide the the afternoon learning activities on a Thursday in middle school for this half term's options.Pupil's are engaged in keeping fit and developing their football skills, using their creative abilities to build space rockets and playing musical instruments.
In performing arts we are looking at spells and wizardry. Pupils have been making their own Wizard/Witches hat and had a great time at The Lyceum Theatre watching The Worst Witch production.
Some middle school pupils have been busy learning to sew and use sewing machines as part of their DT work. They have made some monster toys!
Class 5 went to Ewden Waterworks on 12th February to find out about the water cycle and how our water is made safe to drink. We also visited Broomhead Reservoir to see where the water comes from. We had a brilliant and informative day!
Year 9 have been learning about continents and oceans using our classroom display to label them on a world map.
This half term Y11 have been working hard to plan and host an Afternoon Tea event as part of their vocational learning.
The pupils used functional Mathematics to workout quantities of food and ingredients that would be required and functional English to create menus and posters promoting the event. The group then worked fantastically well preparing all of the food
including a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches, homemade scones with cream & jam, and an assortment of desserts, and finally hosted the event.
All the staff that attended the event were amazed by the fantastic presentation of the tables and the food that had been prepared;
"Such a lovely afternoon! All the students should be so proud. Beautiful",
"A huge thank you for a lovely lunch yesterday. The students were 'beaming' and had obviously enjoyed doing the preparation. The food was fab, and the table looked so inviting we couldn't wait to begin eating. I know I ate far too much but it was lovely. Well done to all the staff too"
Thanks to all of the staff that attended the event and to those that helped Y11 organise it.
This half term ended with a Valentines Day themed Café for staff and pupils from across school. Many thanks to everyone who supported the event.
The proceeds from the Café as always will be donated to Rotherham Hospice.
This half term pupils in Y11 have continued their BTEC Horticulture coursework including maintaining the school grounds and extending the soft fruit tree bedded area.
We hope to plant further trees in the coming weeks and as the weather improves more projects will begin throughout the school grounds
Upper School Options: Sports
On Friday 15th February a group of Upper School pupils visited Sheffield Wednesday training ground for an open day for 4 All Sports and Sheffield Wednesday; who have recently created a new partnership. The group had a fun day playing football, archery and weight lifting. They also had the chance to meet several Sheffield Wednesday player and their manager Steve Bruce who were all more than willing to chat to our pupils. Many thanks to them all for their great hospitality.
On February 12th February Pupils from both Canal side (CS2) and Storey Street came together for a fun afternoon of house activities.
The event began with a quiz led by Mrs Leighton where each team (Drake, Cook and Kingsley) competed to answer questions correctly to earn house points.
A group of pupils, that had earned the most house points, from each team were then selected to take part in an orienteering challenge whilst everyone else took part in a variety of team building activities with the rest of their house.
Thank you to the House Leaders for organising the activities and to all staff for their support in ensuring everything ran smoothly and that the pupils all had a fabulous time.
This half term the Girls Club have been really busy and having lots of fun. These are some of the activities that they have been taking part in:
Pupils have created a nail art display where they created lots of interesting nail art designs. Their designs were fantastic and we have displayed them in the Careers Library for everyone to see and enjoy.
Another exciting activity the pupils have participated in is decorating love heart biscuits with their own original designs.
We have lots more fun activities planned for the coming weeks and hope the girls are all looking forward to it.
