High Point Academy
Week 1: August 15, 2022
Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year
Thanks to everyone who was able to make it to back-to-school night! It was wonderful to see so many happy faces! We know that change can sometimes bring nervousness, but now that we have had a chance to meet, we just cannot wait to get started and hope you are feeling the same too!
To support a smooth start to Day 1, here are some tips:
- Carpool “kiss-and-go” drop-off begins at 7:30am. Parents please stay in your cars and follow the carpool lane that leads to the black gate. Students will enter through the playground. Staff will provide supervision until 7:45am. Teachers will pick up students at 7:45am. Students will be escorted into their classrooms for breakfast. The official start of the school day is 8:00am.
- Staff members will be ready to greet you at the drop-off line, outside the primary building. If your child is having a hard time transitioning to school, we will make sure a staff member is prepared to welcome them and make sure they feel safe joining their class!
- Please remember that we are a wellness school and would like to support the growing brains and bodies of all our students by providing them with healthy foods. If you plan to send your child with a lunch/snack we want to limit processed foods, sugary drinks, chips, etc. During class, students will only be able to have plain water, so please send a water bottle with them if possible!
- Dismissal for elementary students is at 3:30 pm, and middle school dismissal is at 3:40. Please remember to put the car sign on your dash that you received during back-to-school night.
- Dismissal for elementary students on Mondays is at 1:00pm and Tuesday-Friday at 3:30 pm, and middle school dismissal is at 1:10 pm on Mondays and Tuesday- Friday 3:40. Please remember to put the car sign on your dash that you received during back-to-school night. If you did not get your child’s name card, please email the teacher.
- Questions that can be answered by going to our website: What is for lunch? How do I sign up for innovation learning? How do I contact my child's teacher?
- Questions that can be answered by the teacher: Special schedules, classroom communication about what students are learning, school supplies, and homework.
- For any other questions, please reach out through email to info@highpointacademy.net or call our main line: 303-217-5152.
We cannot wait to see all of you for the first day of school, on August 17th!

Back-to-School Night
We had such an amazing turnout for back-to-school night, on August 11th! Thank you to everyone who came out, brought school supplies, set up a vendor booth, and/or visited the classrooms. We hope that you were able to get all the information you needed for a smooth start to the school year! Here are a few of the pictures from all the fun!
Our theme this year comes from this children's book, Anything is Possible, by Guilia Belloni. (Click on the image to listen to the story). In this book, an unlikely pair work together to fulfill the sheep's dream of flying. The book concludes with the message that those who dream learn to fly and anything is possible. As we all approach this year, one year further out from the impact of the pandemic, we are excited to embrace this message with regard to student learning! We know that any dreams our students have for themselves or their learning are possible! Together, we will embrace a new reality of learning that is focused on meeting the social-emotional needs of all our students so that they are all developing as critical thinkers, problem solvers, and leaders who are learning to be innovative, solve problems they see in the world around them, and build the collaboration and communication skills necessary to positively work with others.
Uniform Updates
Thanks to those who reached out about the uniform policy for this year after reading through last week's newsletter. We apologize for the last-minute change; over the summer we considered feedback from staff, families, and students and hope that you find this to be responsive to your needs! While most things remain the same, we want to highlight a few frequently asked questions:
- This year we will allow blue jeans/denim pants, skirts, shorts, overalls, etc. (Other colors of denim are not ok.) Please see the handbook for more details.
- Due to community feedback, we will continue to allow black pants and shirts for middle school students. Thanks for reaching out with your concerns. Black shirts must have a collar and cannot have writing on them. Black pants must meet the expectations set out above for jeans.
- If student pants/shorts have any rips, they must wear tights/leggings underneath. There should be no skin showing above the knee.
- The policy for uniform shirts has not changed: students must wear a collared shirt that is one of the approved HPA colors (gray, light blue, navy blue, white, hunter green, gold, or burgundy).
- High Point Academy clothing is allowed any day of the week.
- The only day teachers can choose to have a dress-down day will be Wednesday! This will help us to monitor the uniform policy as a whole school, and we are hoping this helps you know what to expect as well.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the school deans: Kyle Forsyth, k-4 Dean (kforsyth@highpointacademy.net) or Jessica Newsome, 5-8 Dean (jnewsome@highpointacademy.net).
