1. Message from Dr. Mara

My term is coming to an end. I have been honored to return to the district where I worked a few years ago. I want to thank the Oliver Administration, the Principals, teachers, support staff for their kind words of welcome. Also I want to thank Chairperson Marjorie McBride and the BWRSD School Committee for inviting me back. It is a rare opportunity to be able to return. I have really been amazed at all the wonderful new programs in the district. A new ELA and Math curriculum and robotics are just a few of the initiatives the district is involved in. Lastly I want to thank the parents for their support that they give the district every day. I wish you all a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving.

Dr. Edward P. Mara

Interim Superintendent, Fall of 2021

Superintendent, BWRSD (2004 - 2010)

Assistant Superintendent, BWRSD (2003-2004)

2. COVID-19 Update: Testing Consent and Vaccination

BWRSD principals and staff are working hard to keep our classrooms open despite the increase in positive cases of COVID-19. Our nurses recently completed training and we now have the capacity to complete both rapid tests and PCR testing in schools, so that symptomatic students can be tested prior to being sent home. This also allows us to test close contacts and identify positive cases more quickly. In light of recent outbreaks and the upcoming holidays, we are asking for your support. Please help by…

  • Completing the 2021-22 electronic testing consent form in the Aspen Parent Portal to allow your child to be tested by our school nurses (the one completed for last school year is no longer valid).

  • Keeping your child home from school if they have one or more symptoms of COVID-19,

  • Adhering to quarantine and testing requirements. Do not bring them into school to be tested.

  • Please consider vaccination. Students who are fully vaccinated will not need to quarantine when there is a positive case in school. Since the end of August, 91% of the in-school cases among RI students have been unvaccinated children (RIDOH). Vaccination will keep your child, their peers, and our teachers in school and minimize learning loss.

  • If your child is fully vaccinated, please send a copy of the completed vaccination card to your school nurse.

The BWRSD has partnered with the towns of Bristol and Warren to offer vaccination clinics, for children aged 5 to 11. The next will be clinic will be held on:

  • Friday, December 3, 2021 from 3:30pm to 6:00pm at Hugh Cole School, 50 Asylum Road, Warren, RI 02885 (Registration Link for this clinic). A parent or guardian must accompany the child to the vaccination clinic.

  • Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Guiteras School, 35 Washington Street, Bristol, RI 02809 (Registration Link for this clinic). A parent or guardian must accompany the child to the vaccination clinic.

  • You may also contact your child’s pediatrician for information on COVID-19 vaccinations or visit the Vaccinate RI site or click here to view other vaccination clinics open to any 5-11 year old from any school and from any city/town in Rhode Island.

Here are some Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about COVID-19 vaccination for children age 5 to 11 (English, Spanish, and Portuguese).

We appreciate your support with these critical steps to keep schools open and students learning!
