Congratulations - Student Spotlight!
The Discovery School at Hebron Middle is a unique learning opportunity for middle school students in Bullitt County. They are an advanced and accelerated STEM-based program rooted in Project-Based Learning. During a student’s three years in Discovery School, he or she completes four years of academic curriculum, entering high school having earned multiple credit hours.
Admittance into the Discovery School is a multiple step process:
- Students are required to take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills for Science. Based on the results of that screener, students are selected to proceed to the next step.
- Students who proceed to the next step are required to complete two on-demand questions, and collect two letters of recommendation from teachers and counselors in their school. The answers and letters are evaluated by the current Discovery School teachers in a blind manner.
- Based on the results of the previous step, 50 students (in the district) are selected to interview with the Principal of Hebron Middle School, the District Science Instructional Coach, the Gifted and Talented Services Coordinator, and the Director of Secondary Schools.
- Only 36 students are selected for admission to the program, with several students being designated for the wait list.
SBDM Council - Parent Nominations
We hope you’ll consider running for our school council or encourage a friend to do so. In Kentucky, each school has a School Based Decision Making (SBDM) council composed of the principal, elected teachers, and elected parents. The council is in charge of making many of the most important decisions about how the school operates and supports student achievement. The council is a wonderful chance to learn about our school, work closely with teachers, and help make our school even more successful than it is now. If you know someone who would be a good candidate, please encourage that person to run.
