Where Learning Comes First
Dear Head Community,
We had a great first Color Stable Dress Up Day!!! Our color stables are really important to us here at Head! We use them to constantly teach and reinforce the following character traits: integrity, kindness, creativity, courage, and loyalty. I loved seeing all the excitement the students have for this program! We have a few stable color activities coming up soon... stay tuned!
Tonight is Youth Night at the Brookwood High School football game! Elementary students are encouraged to attend. I will be there to wave and cheer with you guys tonight! I will be trading in my Purple Stable shirt for my Broncos spirit wear! Go Broncos!
An Important Message from Dr. Burnley
Are you interested in getting more involved here at Head? Do you have great ideas to share that would help us be a better school? Would you like to review and give input on important school information? Then School Council is for you! Here's a little information about School Council:
- School councils were established by the Education Reform Act of 2000 to improve communication and participation of parents and the community in the management and operation of schools.
- Schools councils cover three main topics: school improvement plans, curriculum and assessment, and school reports including academic data
School Council meets 4 times per year. All meetings are in person at Head Elementary on Thursdays at 6pm. The meetings last approximately one hour. This year's meetings will be held on September 22nd, November 3rd, January 12th, and March 16th. School Council members serve a 2-year term. In addition to parents, School Council also needs to have business members as part of our group. If you are a parent with your own business, you can join as a business member!
If you are interested in joining School Council, please email Katie Callahan at email@example.com. If we have an overwhelming response, we will hold elections prior to the first meeting to select the council members.

FLL Robotics Team Update
This is just a reminder that fourth grade will meet on Monday Aug. 29 at 7:30am in the Computer Science Specials Classroom. Fifth grade will meet on Wednesday August 31 at 7:30am in the Computer Science Specials Classroom.
4th and 5th graders remember to bring your solution to the problem on the application to present during tryouts! Attached is a QR code for the application if you need it. Please let Mrs. Lee know if your child is coming so that she may look for him/her. firstname.lastname@example.org
The Read-a-thon is coming! Please check Friday folders for information on how to sign up! Here is a link to the Read-a-thon commercial our students made: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1akPfQdARyGeSHTWOvHDjmn1NJSOAT2vc/view?usp=sharing
We will focus on reading the entire month of September both in school and out. Save these dates: Dogwood Pizza Picture Book Night is September 7th, and Dress Like Your Favorite Story Book Character is Tuesday September 20. There will be times during the school day when students drop everything and read in an attempt to exponentially increase independent reading. The Read-a-thon is asking for donations to support the efforts of our readers. Proceeds will help fund new books, apps, hardware, software, greenscreen stations, the Spanish Club, supplies, robots and more!
Parents, please make sure your student has a set of wired headphones for school. Headphones are listed on the supply list for each grade level. Students will need headphones for upcoming assessments as well as daily instruction. Thank you so much for your help with this!
**Unfortunately, students will not be able to use wireless/Bluetooth headphones at this time.**
2nd-5th graders, please join us for snacks, games, teaching, small groups, and playground time! In this Bible-based program, we'll learn about being a good friend, how-to live-in peace, how to forgive, how to love others well, where we find our confidence, and so much more. Tuesdays, beginning September 13, after school until 5pm. If you'd like your child to attend, click here to register. Kids must be registered to attend. If can cannot open the link, check your pop-up blocker, or copy and paste this link into your browser: Hope to see you there!
Car Rider Reminders
Car rider line is already going smoother each day! Please remember that our line closes at 8:40am each morning. In the afternoon, we cannot allow parents to park and come it to receive students. Please use the car rider line with your car rider number. If you do not have a car rider number (if you are picking up just once), you will still use the car rider line and have your ID ready to show. Thank you for helping us keep the line running quickly and safely by following our guidelines! For the safety of everyone, please stay in the car rider line the entire time. Do not drop students off on the street and attempt to turn around. This is very dangerous!
After Labor Day, you will be able to purchase a slide on our marquee for your child's birthday via mypaymentsplus. If your child has a birthday prior to Labor Day, please let Katie Callahan know.
