The Falcon's Nest
#TogetherWeFly Update for Armstrong High School 1/15/2021
Mr. Norby's Update
Good Morning Armstrong Community,
I hope this newsletter finds you happy, healthy, and well during this snowy Friday. I hope our students will take the time to reflect on the impact Dr. Martin Lurther King Jr has on our society in the past but now more than ever! Dr. King had the ability to peacefully protest, deliver charismatic speeches with incredible meaning, and change American culture forever. With all that is going on in our world right now, I ask all our families to reflect on what we as Americans can do to help bring peace to our country, communities, and our school. It is up to us to be the change and be willing to peacefully disagree but love our fellow man as Dr. King did during a pivotal time in American History.
We are excited that our activities and athletics are off and running and all our student athletes are competing and representing Armstrong High School in a positive way.
Please review our grading procedure below. We are trying to make sure our students are held harmless during the pandemic and are trying to offer grading options that will help students and will not impact academic or athletic scholarships possibilities in the future.
Be safe, stay strong, GO FALCONS!
1st Semester Grading Information
- Students with an A or a B in class will receive the letter grade.
- Students that have earned a C or a D will receive a P (Pass) for the course. This will not impact the students GPA.
- Students that have earned an NC in a course will have their grade changed to a DLNP (Distance Learning No Pass) This will not negatively impact a students GPA. The student will still not receive credit for the course.
These changes will be made for students, families don't need to opt into this option.
If Students want to receive a C or a D letter grade instead of a P, please contact your grade level counselor.

Armstrong Activities/ Athletics Update
The activities/athletics office would like to thank everyone for continuing to support our activities and athletics. We know that not being able to support our events in person has been a challenge. We have created a new YouTube channel that will be a central location for our events. If you subscribe to the page, you will receive notifications when a live event has started.
The link is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSzjlvTIcliL1PjWaaLfVSA
Winter activities have two spectators per participant guidelines in place. Parents of participants can notify our office which two spectators will attend.
We know this is not ideal, but we want to make sure you can watch our students perform in athletics and fine arts events.
Thank you again for making the best of this abnormal year.
Larry Tate
Activities/Athletics Director
Our winter seasons have kicked off. Teams are ready to roll and live stream sites have been put in place t allow you to enjoy all our Falcon home games.

Academic Integrity
At Armstrong, we strive to develop our students in the classroom as well as outside the classroom. Working with our students to help them make positive choices when it comes to their academics is one area we like to focus on. We want our students to have integrity in all areas of their lives, including academic integrity. Our plan is to partner with our students and support good decisions regarding academic integrity. We look at academic integrity issues as a teaching point in our students' lives. We help guide students in a reflective process to ensure it doesn’t happen again. This past Wednesday during your students advisory they went over the following presentation and learned about academic integrity, and learned about the policy and some of the consequences that could take place. Please take time to look over the slides attached in our newsletter this week and have a conversation with your student about the expectations.
Students have been made aware that if they have a second academic integrity violation of any kind, and any class, that the offense will result in an automatic zero in that assessment and possible further disciplinary action. Academic integrity violations include:Cheating, copying another work, submitting another person's work, unauthorized use of tech or other resources, collaboration with others when individual work is expected, plagiarism. We would like to thank you as you partner with us.

COVID-19 Reminders and Updates:
All families must use the self-screening tool before sending their students to school or school activities each day.
The threshold for sending students home due to illness this school year is lower than usual. Make a plan with family or friends regarding how your student will get home from school if they develop symptoms of illness during the school day. Students without vehicles at school will need to be picked up promptly and will remain in an illness isolation room until picked up.
Please check your contact information in Infinite Campus and make sure it is up to date. For any changes, contact 763-504-8806.
If a student or staff is identified by the Minnesota Department of Health as a close contact of someone with lab-confirmed COVID-19 while at an AHS activity, they will receive notification from the school and explanation of next steps.
If a student or staff is NOT identified as a close contact, but is in an AHS activity group or a classroom with someone who has lab-confirmed COVID-19, they will receive general notification that there was a case of COVID-19 reported in their activity group or classroom.
