CB West High School

Updates From Mr. Bucher

Important Information About Report Cards!

Effective with the 2014-2015 school year, secondary school parents will be able to view, print, and/or save their child’s report card directly from the Parent Portal. Printed report cards will not be sent home with students. Parents will be able to view report cards for middle and/or high school students for the 1st marking period on November 12th at 8:00 AM. For parent convenience, we will announce future report cards dates at the conclusion of each subsequent marking period in the school newsletter and post them on the school website.

PSAT’s will be held on Saturday, October 18th at 8:00 A. M. at CB West. PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test. The PSAT measures: critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills, and writing skills. It also gives juniors a chance to enter national Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs.

Your child may now register for the PSAT in the Guidance Office. The cost of registration is $19.00, payable by check only. Checks should be made payable to the Central Bucks West Student Activity Fund. The last day for registration will be October 16th.

ePrep is a free, online resource available to all CB students to help prepare for PSAT’s, SAT’s, and ACT’s. Students can design their own study plan, take practice tests, review vocabulary lists, and access over 1000 video tutorials to help with content and test-taking strategies. Please see Mrs. Graney in the library to sign up for an account today!

Commended Students In The National Merit Scholarship Program

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The qualifying test is a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year. The student’s responses to items in the PSAT/NMSQT answer sheet that are specific to the National Merit program entry determine whether the individual meets requirements to participate in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Approximately 50,000 students out of 1.5 million entrants with the highest PSAT/NMSQT scores (critical reading, mathematics, writing all combined) qualified for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program. In last week’s newsletter, CB West's Semifinalists were announced. This week, I am pleased to announce CB West's Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Congratulations to the following CB West Students:

Margaret K. Baltes

Jacqueline L. Fitzgerald

Spencer P. Gogol

James M. Kelleher

Gillis S. Wang

Congratulations To The CB West Field Hockey Team For Their 4-0 Win Against Quakertown On Tuesday Night!

The Arrival of the Seaboard

CB West has been selected as a "Featured Institution" by the Roli Company to be the first high school in the world to acquire a new musical instrument called the "Seaboard". The Seaboard allows the performer to bend pitches, create vibrato, and sustain notes entirely by touch. A beautifully sleek rubber coating sits atop 88 "keywaves", allowing the performer to achieve a level of expression on a piano keyboard that has been previously impossible.

Since CB West is the first high school in the world to have the honor of acquiring the Seaboard, every piece of music our students play, compose, and improvise will be a world premiere. We are currently working on plans to unveil the new instrument as it just arrived late last week. Stay tuned!
