Progress Notices for 3rd Trimester
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, all PUSD schools moved to Distance Learning beginning March 16. As PUSD transitioned to Distance Learning, your child was provided opportunities to participate in learning activities focused primarily on reading, writing, and mathematics. Though rubric/grading marks were not utilized in Distance Learning, feedback was provided by the teacher to the student.
Prior to school closures, students had received academic achievement feedback via the Trimester 2 progress report. In all marks for trimester three, “DL” was utilized to denote Distance Learning.

Farewell from the D.A.D.S. Group President, and "Why Volunteer?"
By Victor Chan
It is with some sadness that I am saying goodbye to Park Village Elementary. I've been volunteering since my oldest daughter started at PVES, and this fall she'll be a senior in college! Though it wasn't until the last couple of years before I headed up the group, I was following in the footsteps of some pretty awesome presidents who were an inspiration to me. This fall I'm certain Steve Ball will do a great job as DADS President. I believe we have one of the most, if not The Most active DADS Groups of the local elementary schools; and while it took effort on my part, the biggest reason we're so active, is that we have the Dedicated And Determined Support of many volunteers - Thank you Dads! Without you, we just would not be able to put on Movie Night, Pancake Breakfast and Car Show, Astronomy Night, Bicycle Safety and Canyon Ride, Canyon Quest, and support Penguin Rock, Meet and Greet, Game Night and various other events. In addition to that, we have been painting, building, moving rock, repairing backpack shelf hooks, repairing reading garden benches, laying pavers, setting up aquaponics planters, making bird and critter net covers for planters, and the list seems to go on and on. While it may seem like a lot of work, we have a lot of fun doing it, and the camaraderie, "thank you"s and appreciation make it all worth it - not to mention learning about tools and techniques for these projects. So, I am imploring you to come out and get involved. With everything that's been happening, being around a great group of guys and doing good is fun, rewarding, and makes a difference. Ask yourself, "what kind of role model do I want to be for my kid(s)?" Believe me, time passes quickly and before you know it these grade school times will be over. Oh, and did I mention the meetings? If you are not on the mailchimp email list, send a message to pvesdads1@gmail.com. Thank you, and perhaps someday we'll volunteer together again!
Digital Libraries Are Open All Summer Long
PVES students have an exciting service in the Sora ebook app that gives them free 24/7 access to ebooks and audiobooks. Between now and July 31, 2020, the Sora Sweet Reads program includes books that are available to every student at any time.
These titles are prominently displayed in Sora for quick and easy unlimited access. You can explore the titles and learn more about the program here: https://resources.overdrive.com/sora-sweet-reads/
Remember that the Sora app can also be linked to the San Diego County Public Library’s Sora collection. If your students read all of the PUSD Sweet Reads, they can always borrow more books from SDCL without ever leaving the Sora app!
More information about this and other ebook options are listed on the library’s website or the “Ebooks” page of the PVES Library course in MyConnect.
Virtual Summer Reading Program at San Diego Public Library
K-12 Live Reading Programs Available at SDSU
The San Diego State University K-12 Reading Program has opened early, reduced rates, and converted all classes to a live online format, to help parents and schools maintain student learning during these unusual times. The online classes are live, teacher-led, and are available now and continuing throughout the summer. Classes are available for Pre-K through 12th grade students.
The curriculum is high caliber and has been taught in a live, online format for 5 years already with over 50,000 school-age students. Teachers are highly-trained with many years of experience teaching effectively in online classrooms.
Skills taught include:
- Early Elementary: letter recognition, phonemic awareness, sight words, phonics
- Mid-to-Late Elementary: fluency, phonics, long-word decoding, comprehension, textbook reading, writing
- Middle and High School: doubling reading speed, comprehension, writing, notetaking, test preparation, textbook strategies
Many parents are seeking solutions to keep their children productively engaged and ready to hit the ground running when in-person school resumes. Should you have trouble opening the attachment, please visit our website at https://sdsu.readingclasses.org/
