Hour of Code
Hour of Code (HOC) is quickly approaching! We had many classrooms last year participate in HOC, this year the official HOC week is December 4-10, but you can host an HOC activity in your class at any time. Check out the websites below for online activities to use with your students during an HOC. Let me know if you are holding an HOC in your room this year, I would love to take pictures, join classes to help with HOC, and help support in any way I can.
The Foos
The Foos is a great site for beginning young coders. It doesn't required any reading because all skills are demonstrated for you on screen. Students will have a great time moving the fun Foos Monsters through the levels of this coding adventure. (Grades K-2)
Kodable 1-2
Kodable offers another fun choice for pre/early-readers learning to code. Students help click and drag arrows to direct the Kodable Characters through different mazes coding the direction for the fuzzy Kodable Character. (Grades 1-2)
Code.org
Code.org offers many HOC activity options. A few popular ones from last year include the Star Wars, MineCraft, & Angry Bird coding activities. Any activities within the page with the Code.org logo (above) are within Code.org and include video directions about how to go through activities. (Grades 1-5)
Digital Citizenship Curriculum - for Anti-Bullying Week
Our PTA will be sponsoring an Anti-Bullying week in December. Friday's activity has classrooms going over the Cyberbullying lesson from our Digital Citizenship Curriculum.
