A Message from Mr. Anderson
I hope that you all have had a fantastic weekend and enjoyed the nice weather!
This Smore newsletter contains a plethora of resources for parents that we have shared before. The newest information are updates from The Department of Health that has required us to modify our flow chart when a student presents with COVID symptoms. Please make sure to review this and reach out with any questions.
As a school community I have been so incredibly grateful how we are working together to keep our school open and safe for all who enter. My motto this school year has been, "Everyday is a gift". Making every single moment the best it can be for our school family has been the highest priority. I want to thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as the current Department of Health regulations has required many of our faculty and staff to have to quarantine or not be able to attend school for short periods of time. This has been challenging, but our faculty and staff is stepping up all over the place to cover jobs and support each other to put our students first. As a principal and parent myself I cannot express in words how much I appreciate and absolute love our professional panther family. We also can't do our job without your support and help. I know this is hard, but WE GOT THIS! And your child's teachers are ROCKING this, learning, growing, and getting better every day to meet the needs of our students.
Thank you so much for all you do to support our school. We are forever grateful for this community of amazing people!

Message from the Health Office Regarding Student Absences and Protocols
Last week, the New York State Department of Health provided school districts across New York State a toolkit with the most updated guidance for schools to utilize in responding to sick students or staff members. As you know, COVID-19 is beginning to spread across Steuben County and the Southern Tier as well as across other parts of the state. This causes the state and its school districts to continue to revise and adjust the required health and safety protocols to ensure the entire school community can remain healthy and safe. We have taken direction from NYS Dept. of Health and Steuben County Public Health in revising our C-S procedures for students or staff members who become ill and exhibit any of the COVID-19 symptoms. Although only slight changes are necessary, it is important that our entire community is aware of these changes as they will be implemented immediately beginning Monday, October 19.
Summary of C-S procedures for ill students or staff.
- Students and Staff who present any of the COVID-19 symptoms must follow up with a healthcare provider OR get a COVID-19 test and communicate their follow up with the school health office within 48 hours.
- Self-quarantining is no longer an option for follow-up (unless placed on a mandatory quarantine by Steuben County Public Health).
- Any ill student or staff who do not follow up with a healthcare provider or get a COVID-19 test will be "deemed positive" by the Steuben County Public Health Department and will be placed on a mandatory quarantine alongside any close contacts as determined through contact tracing.
As a reminder, all required forms for follow-up with a healthcare provider are available on our district website on the Health Office Department webpage. These forms can also be emailed to you from the main office of provided in hard copy at the school for pick-up. Please reach out to the school if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Melody DeCamp

A note from Mrs. Powell- Home School Counselor & After School Program
The ASP has started and completed their first full week. If you would like to participate in virtual learning with your child feel free to visit between 3:15 and 4:00. Students should all have a book, and a water bottle with them each day for the After School Program. All students need to be picked up by 5:00 at the front office. If you have any questions or you would like to enroll you child in the ASP, give me a call at the school EXT 3105.
The BPP program has also started. Anyone enrolled should have received a bag of food this week. We are at full capacity so if you would like to enroll in the program your name will go on a waiting list. If a spot opens, you will be put in. If your child is virtual you can pick up your bag in the front office. If you received a bag and you weren’t supposed to, or you didn’t receive a bag and you were supposed to call me at the school EXT 3105.
Don’t forget all lost and found is located in my office. If your child is missing an item, they may come here to look for it or you may call me. ALL items get donated at the end of each month.
If you are in need of anything or have any questions, please feel free to call me. I will help in any way I can, to get you and your family taken care of.

School Info App - Communicating with your child's teacher(s)
How to Get messages from your child's teachers: One important way to get messages from your child's teacher and to make sure that you are getting updates from the school is to go to "My Alerts". Once in "my alerts" make sure that "Enable Push Notifications" is turned on and that all of the buttons are turned "on".
Next... look at the bottom of the screen, you will see the picture of a bell next two an icon of two people. Click on the icon of the 2 people. This will then bring up teachers names along with icons to turn on notifications. Search out your child's teacher(s) and turn on those notifications.
If you would like to send your child a message, go back to the main screen and click "conversations" this then works just like text messaging on your smart phone. Make sure to put a title to the message so you know who you are sending it to when you go back to the app.
New Things!
- The student absence and Tech Help Forms are now in a button on the first page of the app! Just click and you can fill everything out on your smartphone!
A word of advice - Always check and make sure when you are in the app that you are in the correct school. Make sure that it is the Campbell Savona Elementary school:)

Face Coverings - Basic Expectations
The topic of face coverings (masks) has been a part of our presentations as we have been preparing for the first days of school. The District's "Day in the Life" of a CSCSD student explains this in a fun way!
Mr. Anderson and Mrs. Proudfoot handed out the donated PTO face masks the first day of school. It was awesome to see how excited our students were!
For some basic expectations, please refer to the following general bullets below.
- Students will be expected to wear face coverings in all common areas and hallways.
- Students may take off a face covering when sitting at his/her seat in the classroom and cafeteria.
- Students and teachers must put on a face covering when working in small groups closer than 6 feet from one another as they interact with each other in the classroom.
- Teachers will help to prompt students when it is time to put on face coverings and also to take them off.
What will students be doing on "Remote" Days?
Through many conversations and parent feedback, we at school understand that due to every families unique circumstances that providing flexibility is very important. This is why we worked very hard to have as little time strictly scheduled as possible. We this in mind, the only weekly scheduled time for ALL students to log onto Zoom and attend class will be on Mondays with their entire class (All teams! Red, White, and Blue!). Each grade level will have a specific time to log on so that they can, in real time, talk to their classmates and teacher. This time will be shared prior to school starting. This will also be a critical time for students to hear about the lesson objectives of the week, assignments due, and to have fun communicating with their classmates.
Everyday Expectation - Every student must log on to his/her digital classroom (Seesaw or Google Classroom) and complete the attendance form prior to 2pm.
Mondays - Required classroom Zoom to keep connections with the entire class and teacher, and to get the lesson objectives for the week and assignments that will be due.
Tuesday/Thursday and Wednesday/Friday Remote Days - These days will allow parents and students flexibility in which they can help support their child at any time during the day because the lessons will be pre-recorded and available on Seesaw (PreK-2) and Google Classroom (3-6) along with the assignments and teacher feedback. The only time requirement on these days is that every student must log on to his/her digital classroom and click on the attendance form so attest that they are "in attendance" for the school day by 2pm. It is a state requirement that the school must take attendance every day. We will be practicing all of these procedures and processes with our students on the first day of school!
Since teachers will actively have students in their classrooms Tuesday-Friday; therefore making themselves unavailable for students learning remotely from home, there will be a set time for "office hours" via zoom and telephone in which teaching assistants and special education teachers will be available to help students and parents. You will be notified of these times as the school year begins.
Individualized Expectations - In order to provide a multi-tiered system of support for our students, your child's teacher/special education teacher/grade level Teaching Assistant may reach out to set up specific times with your child to hold small group Zoom meetings to support differentiated and individualized instruction as is needed.
