HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 5- 17 August
FROM MARK:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please keep our children making their First Communion this weekend in your prayers. This is a big step in their faith journey. A lot of preparation on the part of parents and guardians and teachers has taken place. God bless you all.
The choir performed very well this week, involved as they were in the annual Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival. They sang like birds. To all and to Michelle Kirwan we are proud of you!
Many people had the chance to speak with Bishop Sproxton last weekend. Thank you for doing so, for making him so welcome, and for helping paint a picture of our community.
Many thanks to Michelle Kirwan and the choir for leading us at mass on Wednesday to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption. Father Peter is back after his holiday, and we are pleased to see that he has returned to us in such good form.
Pre Primary Dominic are to be congratulated on their fabulous assembly this morning – it was just wonderful to see the children in such great form, so keen to participate! Congratulations to Riana, Laura and Sheree – it was a hoot!
As you walk up from the lower car park, cast your eye over the renovations to the extended Pre Primary playground. The Busy Bee last weekend – which carried over to Sunday – has resulted in the creation of a work of art – the ‘deck’. It is magnificent. Check out the report on FB and in this newsletter. To everyone involved, we thank you for the amazing way in which this space is being reimagined. It will prove irresistible to all of the children in Pre Primary!!!
See you at the Book Week Parade!

HANDS-ON LEARNING IN MAKER SPACE
Holy Rosary’s new Maker Space in the library is a hands-on creative area where students can tinker, explore, discover and create new things connected to Science, Technology, Enterprise and Maths.
While still at the early stage, the Maker Space will slowly grow to include cool tools, materials, robotics and resources.
In addition to the $5,000 grant which was successfully applied for by the school, the Maker Space is being funded by the parent community. Please support the upcoming events of Music Bingo and the Art Expo!

2018 Hale Connect Triathlon - Years 5 & 6
Once again this year we are offering our Year 5 and 6 students the opportunity to participate in the Hale Connect Triathlon. The aim of these sessions is to provide children with the opportunity to experience the sport of Triathlon in the safe surrounds of the Hale School grounds. The culmination of the sessions will be a triathlon race on Hale School grounds as well as providing a great lead up to the Primary Schools Interschool Triathlon at Champion Lakes.
During each training session all children will gain experience in the three disciplines of swimming, cycling and running.
Swimming - The swimming section will be completed in Hale’s 25m pool that has a uniform depth of 1.2m. Students involved should be proficient at freestyle as the aim of the swimming sessions is not to teach students how to swim but rather to give technique tips and to build endurance with the goal of swimming 100m. Children will need bathers, goggles and a towel.
Cycling – Cycling will take place across the Hale School ovals, providing tips on changing gears and bike handling. As they will be riding on grass, children are recommended to bring mountain or hybrid style bikes rather than road racing bikes. Helmets are mandatory.
Running – This will also take place on Hale School ovals. Running sessions will involve interval running to build their fitness as well as practicing bike to run transitions. Children will need running shoes.
Prerequisites for the program are that students must commit to attending the training sessions and have a bicycle preferably mountain bike that can be taken to each training session. Students must also be able to swim 50m confidently. The programme will run on the following dates, with students assembling at the Hale Sports Pavilion:
- Term 3 Wk 9: Tuesday, 11 September 3.45pm – 5.00pm
- Term 3 Wk 10: Tuesday, 18 September 3.45pm – 5.00pm
- Term 4 Wk 2: Tuesday, 16 October 3.45pm – 5.00pm
- Term 4 Wk 3: Tuesday, 23 October 3.45pm – 5.00pm
- Term 4 Wk 4: Tuesday, 30 October 3.45pm – 5.00pm
f you are able to swim confidently and make all of the training sessions simply put your name on the list outside the sports office. The 30 best applicants will be picked from Year 5 and 6 to participate and they will then receive a permission slip from Mr Flexman to take home.

LIBRARY NEWS
It’s BOOK WEEK !!!
Everyone is invited to join us at our BOOK WEEK PARADE next Friday 24th August in the gym to celebrate! Students can dress as their favourite book character and we can’t wait to see what they have come up with. They are welcome to carry their book, a photocopy or a drawing of the cover, but this is not compulsory. It’s always a lot of fun and the library will be open afterwards for family members until 10am to view the students’ amazing artwork. With the theme this year being Find Your Treasure, it has been wonderful to see our HR students treasuring books and watching their love for reading grow. 1D had a full class of library bags this week so that every student borrowed and they are now the Champion Borrowers! See you at the parade!
