Waterbury Roar
Volume 1, Issue 22; February 5th, 2021
A Roar from our Principal, Dr. Jon Pokora
Hello Waterbury Community,
As we get close to the end of trimester two, we have some big events occurring. First, we do not have school on Friday, February 12th as this is a half day of parent/teacher conferences and staff meetings. We do not have school on February 15th, as its President’s Day.
Sandwiched in there is Valentine’s Day. Please look for guidance from your teacher on how the day will look for your child.
Last, this upcoming week, we are supposed to have daily negative temperatures. Please make sure your children are bundled up. We will try to get them in as quickly as possible. To assist us, please do not sign the self-certification card for future dates. While this process may slow down a morning routine, it is important that we continue to maintain a safe and healthy school. Thus far, we have not had a school spread of COVID. We have had cases of COVID though. In order for us to remain open to in-person learning, we need your assistance.
Last, as a result of the negative temperatures, we will have all students enter through door 4. We will have all our staff reallocated to support students at arrival through that door. Please let your child know that we will use that door, as it’s the closest to the car drop off and no one will walk any further, outside, then needed.
Thanks and have a great day,
Dr. Jon Pokora

Hi to all of my favorite students!
It has been so great to see so many of you back in school. I’m so proud of how you all wear your masks, practice good handwashing, and stay 6 feet apart of one another. These healthy habits are so important in our efforts to keep all of you healthy and safe!
My office needs some colorful decorations. If you have any free time and would like to help me, please print of this coloring sheet, color it however you want to and drop it off at the health office when you are in school. It would make my heart so happy!
Have a wonderful weekend!
See you next week –

February is National Dental Health Month!
Lifelong habits begin at home. Make dental health part of your daily routine and share these reminders with your whole family:
· Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, especially after breakfast and before bedtime. Drinking water after eating also helps to clear your teeth of food particles.
· Floss every day. An adult should help children under the age of eight to floss. Older children should be ready to floss on their own.
· Limit the number of times you eat snacks, especially the sticky ones and long lasting ones.
· Visit a dentist regularly for a routine check-up and a cleaning.
· Protect your teeth by wearing a mouth guard when playing sports.
· Don’t forget to change your tooth brush regularly, and after an illness.
Sweet snack facts:
· Eating a lot of snacks with sugar may cause cavities.
· Every time you eat sugar, plaque in your mouth mixes with the sugar to make acid. The acid hurts the teeth and causes decay over time. This can be painful!
The dentist will be visiting our school in March. Permission forms will be sent home next week.
Print out and color one of these coloring sheets for Nurse Lisa's office!
