Literacy Week Events!
January 27th-30th
Celebrating Literacy Week 2020!
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Literacy is integrated into all curriculum programming at Southview Public School, each and every day. In addition to our regular literacy programming, our school is planning several additional activities to celebrate Literacy Week 2019: Monday, January 28th to Thursday, January 31st. Family Literacy Day is Saturday, January 27th, 2019.
#GetCaughtReading ~ Snap a picture of your family reading and post to Twitter using this hashtag. Be sure to tag @Southview_LDSB. Or send to our email (sview@limestone.on.ca) and your child will be entered into a draw for prizes.
Additional, Day-Specific Literacy Week Events:
Monday, January 28th:
Grab and Go -Students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 will have an opportunity to choose and take home a picture book to keep.
Students begin their home literacy connection check sheet. Students choose one activity each night to do with a family member. On Monday, February 4th, students return their sheets to be entered into a draw for a prize! Prizes will be drawn Wednesday, February 6th! A sample of the home connection check sheet is below.
DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) An announcement will come on over the PA system telling every student and staff member to drop everything they are doing and read their favourite book for 15 minutes.
Bring your favourite book from home day! Students can their favourites with friends!
Write Now -A writing prompt will be announced over the PA system. In their classes, students will collaboratively work on this prompt. Classroom work will be displayed in the front foyer for all to enjoy!
Wednesday, January 30th
PJ day -Students are encouraged to wear their favourite pajamas. We will also have a buddy reading campout -older classes will be paired with younger classes to read together at our campout (aka library).
Thursday, January 31st
Read My Shirt Day Students are encouraged to wear a shirt that has words and/or numbers on it. Students will have fun reading each other's shirts! Any messages displayed on shirts must be positive and respectful.

- Literacy Week Assembly A chance for our school to come together and celebrate our week!
Please note that not all classes will necessarily participate in all of the above activities, and that there may be other class-specific, special literacy week activities planned throughout the week.
