Ms. Teekell
My sixth graders are the best teachers in the world! They tutor each other and are excellent teammates when doing projects. Our class has a vision of an exciting, positive place for learning, and so far it has come true. One of our recent topics of study was Brainology, the study of the brain and how it works.
Ms. Chaitoff
Ha Ha Ha – that’s me laughing with my students everyday, one of my favorite activities. We have just completed a unit of science that explores building structures and soon will be studying WWI and building model bi-wing airplanes. These students will also study the planets and work hard in all areas to get ready for middle school.
Genre Studies
Genre- a particular type, sort, or category of literature. Ms. Teekell's class learned about the genres of Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Biography, Informational texts, Realistic, Science Fiction and created Keynote presentations. Reading a wide variety of genres is a goal of her class!
Mr. Baldwin
Leaving Hawaii and surfing was hard, but coming to Lake Hood these past 4 years has been great! I really love being involved with student learning and I’m looking forward to studying U.S. History – Revolutionary War in the coming months.
Ms. Toso
I’m a Texas transplant that has been in AK for 20 years and I don’t want to be anywhere else. I’m looking forward to teaching about the American Revolution and the Lewis and Clark Expedition this year. Every night when I get home, my husband asks for any funny stories I might have. I have so much fun with my students daily and I can’t imagine doing anything else.
Teamwork
Both 5th grade classes traveled to Campbell Creek Science Center and learned how to work together. One game called Spiderweb challenged the students to go through the web, using each hole only once. Another game was Toxic Waste which gave students the experience of completing a learning goal without speaking aloud.
