"Autism is not an illness. It is a different way of being human. Children and adults with autism progress through developmental stages as we all do. To help them be successful, we do not need to 'fix' them. We need to understand them and then change ourselves -- our beliefs, attitudes, and actions. This is the philosophy of Dr. Barry Prizant, and Uniquely Human is the culmination of his life's work."
Join us as we read Uniquely Human: A Different Way of Seeing Autism, an informative book for any educator of a person with autism. This book study will be conducted through virtual meetings and assignments in Google Classroom. Starting on February 2nd, participants will meet every other Tuesday from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. via Zoom to discuss the two chapters assigned from the book. Each participant will receive a copy of Dr. Barry Prizant's book, Uniquely Human: A Different Way of Seeing Autism.
.6 ASHA CEUs will be provided for attending all six Zoom sessions. If you do not attend all six sessions, you will not receive ASHA CEUs. This book study is intended for educators of children with autism and speech-language pathologists working in public schools. Registration information is located here.
Make sure to register for the remaining Statewide SLP webinars. These are excellent professional learning opportunities for school-based speech-language pathologists and speech-language pathology assistants.
