English Language Classes
Our English Language classes offered at Libby are a result of a partnership with Mira Costa College. The class is very popular and the students (community members) are expanding their English language skills. The class is held M-Th at Libby.
Mira Costa EL instructors
The Mira Costa English Language instructor is very interactive and a dedicated teacher for our community members. Many of the students are Libby family members.
Drama Club!
Our Libby students have been chosen to participate in our Community School sponsored Drama Club. Students learn about all the pieces of theatric play including music, script reading, and acting.
Agua Hedionda trips
Our Libby students also visit Agua Hedionda each week to engage in the natural sciences including animal science, biology, botany, and art. The learning is fantastic and also part of the resources available through our Community School grant. More to come!
Don't Forget!!
Too Early!
There Is No Student Supervision Before 7:45AM
Remember that our gates do not open until 7:45am. We do not have supervision for our students before 7:45am. We see many students outside the gates too early. It can be dangerous to leave students before supervision is available. Also, students stand in the cold weather and this is dangerous too. Please make arrangements to avoid dropping off your students too early. Contact our office if you require support at 760-901-7000. Thank you!
Behavior Expectations are Important!
Positive Behavior at School
The 3 R's at Libby are Respect, Responsible, and Ready to Learn. We remind our students often to be kind which means to interact positively, and play nicely together. Sometimes our reminders must be more serious, especially if a student hurts another student.
When a student hurts another child, we immediately conduct an investigation to find out what happened and why. We must talk to all involved and then we contact families as soon as possible. Often the problem can be resolved through Restorative Practices when students talk it out and repair the relationship. Other times, consequences are given.
Please speak with your child every day about the 3 Rs and when at school, positive behavior is an expectation. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher first. We are happy to answer your questions.
🚗TRAFFIC ALERTS!!!!!
BE SAFE!!!
It is extremely important that all of our Libby Families be safe when dropping off and picking up their students from school. We have had many reports of people in our school community not following traffic rules!
- DO NOT SPEED!
- DO NOT PARK IN THE DROP OFF/PICK UP ZONE!
- PARK IN THE PARKING LOT
- STAY IN YOUR CAR!
- MOVE FORWARD THROUGH THE DROP OFF/PICK UP ZONE
- WATCH FOR FAMILIES WALKING
- BE PATIENT AND BE AWARE, STAY OFF YOUR CELL PHONES
We are looking for volunteers to help us keep students safe. Please call the office if you are interested in volunteering. We need volunteers from 8:00-8:15 am and 2:45-3:15pm (M, T, Th, F) and 12:15-12:45pm (W). Thank you for your cooperation.
OPD Traffic Support at all OUSD Schools
Starting this week, you may be seeing an increase in police presence around our schools. Oceanside Police Officers will go by schools during drop off and pick-ups to monitor traffic. They cannot be at every school daily but will rotate around the city. This will not be a mandatory enforcement detail but an observation, education, and last resort, enforcement. We want everyone to be safe, especially around our schools and we appreciate our partnership with OPD.
Remember to Charge Your Device!
Bring Your Device Charged Up and Ready!
Each day our Libby Tigers use their electronic device (Chromebook, tablets) to access learning from iReady to Nearpod and with many technology based programs. Please help your children to remember to charge their device so that they are ready to learn. If you are having issues with the device, please inform your child's teacher. Build a daily routine of plugging in the device and then bringing it to school.

Safety First!!!
Parent Volunteer Safety Patrol Needed
Libby Elementary always has a focus on safety! It is one of the most important concerns. We would like to start a Volunteer Safety Patrol to help us direct traffic, assist in helping children exit and enter their cars, and keeping our students safe during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. If you have a focus on safety and have time during the morning, 7:45-8:15am and/or 2:10pm-3:15pm, we would appreciate your help. We can create a schedule and with enough volunteers, it would be just 30 minutes of your time once or twice a week. Please contact Lucy Hiatt at lucy.hiatt@oside.us, for more information. Thank you!
Keep CLEAR!
New Signs! Drop Off/Pick Up Zone
Please follow our new signs and do not drop off/pick up students until you move all the way down the curb. DO NOT PARK ON THE CURB! When you drop off/pick up before the drop-off/pick up zone, cars back up on to W. Redondo Dr and that is very DANGEROUS! Please be safe and courteous for all families and their students.
No Dogs on Campus
📓School News You Can Use 🍎
Call our Attendance Hotline to report your child's absence.
Students Out More Than 5 days Need an Independent Study Contract. Please Read!
Independent Study Contracts
If your child will be away from school longer than 5 days, please let us know ahead of time (at least a week prior) so that we can prepare an Independent Study Contract. The contract will first need to be approved by the principal and will include school work for your child to complete so that the missing days from school will not be considered "unexcused". Please call our office at 760-901-7000 or stop by to speak with an office staff member. Without approval or without prior notice to set up the contract, the days missed will be marked "unexcused". Thank you for your cooperation!
Weekly Envelope!
Every week your child takes home a weekly information envelope. Inside are important flyers, letters, and items that need your attention. Please remove the items and return the signed envelope back to school with your child. Thank you!
