Star animals
Consumer
The sea otter is a very playful species and can be found on the north/east coast of the Olympic peninsula. Once hunted to near extinction for their rich fur coats. The sea otters are still recovering and are still endangered.
Arthropod
The pacific clubtail is very rare in Washington because it only lives near water and its main habitat is the coast of the Olympic peninsula. Researchers are trying to find more habitats but the only known one is the coast.
Producer
The northern wormwood is found in the coast of Washington and is rarely found in other areas. This plant was originally native to the coast but then spread slightly across Washington.
Ecosystems
The pacific coast ecosystem is a common ecosystem in Washington. Consisting of fish, birds, sea weed, coral and many other factors. Temperate pacific intertidal mudbeds are another ecosystem. The main factor in this one is algae. The North Pacific maritime eelgrass bed is another ecosystem found on the coast. Algae and kelp are very important as well as stone and bedrock
